The solution for both of these is a large screw that sits at the base of the head where the head and the base meet - you'll see it when you tilt the head up. This screw should not be all the way in. You can adjust how low the head goes- in the case of your blades hitting the bowl you'll want to let the screw out a bit; in the case of the locking, you'll want to screw it in a bit more.

Why do I see oil leaking from the beater shaft of my stand mixer?
Some KitchenAid® stand mixers that are not used very often or have been tipped may experience slight oil leakage from the shaft or hub attachment. To avoid the oil leakage, KitchenAid suggests that you run the mixer weekly for short periods of time. Generally, the mixer may lose approximately X cup of oil before repair is necessary. The oil used is FDA approved and is not harmful to consume, should any get into the food that you are preparing.

HAMILTONCOOL - It appears that your mixer had a mechanical failure in the transmission box or planetary gear assembly of your mixer failure - one of the main gears has failed, hence the loss of power to the agitator. You didn't mention any associated noise prior to the loss of power to your agitator, but I'm assuming there was just a little more noise than usual, prior to failure.
The inspection and troubleshooting of the transmission is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the correct Part List manual around when you start to disassemble your mixer. If you're lacking one, you can download it from the KA website. Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, and then select Parts List file. You can check the page titled 'Case, Gearing & Planetary Unit, for the disassembly, troubleshooting, and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. It can be messy but gratifying. Hi KELLYSERMAN, this should be pretty easy to do by yourself the instructions for adjusting your beater to bowl clearance is in your Owners Manual. I you don’t have the original manual you can easily download a PDF version of your Owners Manual from the KA website: (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home).
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in your case KSM150 and select the file listed for your model that appears under Owners Manuals (66): KSM150PSER1 (732.33KB) and save that file to your PC. Turn to Page 14 and you will find the instructions for adjusting the mixer head height. I have extracted the instructions below:
Beater to Bowl Clearance
Your mixer is adjusted at the factory so that the flat beater just clears the bottom of the bowl. If for any reason, the flat beater hits the bottom of the bowl or is too far away from the bowl, clearance
Tilt-Head models
• Unplug mixer.
• Lift motor head.
• Turn screw (A) SLIGHTLY counter clockwise (left) to raise flat beater or clockwise (right) to lower flat beater.
• Make adjustment with flat beater, so it just clears surface of bowl.
If you over adjust the screw, the bowl lock lever may not lock into place.
