My Maytag 2400 stops in the middle of a wash cycle and flashes an "nd" error code and then will not continue. I tried stopping the cycle then doing just a rinse/spin or just a spin and/or a drain. Nothing worked. emptied the clothes and let the washer sit all day. when I came home I pushed the spin cycle and it completed it perfectly (with no clothes in the machine)???? Don't know how to proceed.
Hi, the nd code means no drain, which means the machine it unable to drain the wash or rinse water. You need to check the drain hose behind the machine and make sure it's not plugged with lint or other objects. If it is clear it means the pump is either bad or plugged itself. Hope it's just the drain hose. Otherwise you will have to get a little dirty if you are a do-it-your-self person. Otherwise it will be call a repair shop.
ND means no drain. The issue could be using the wrong detergent. IT could also be something stuck in the filter or the pump.

I had the exact same problem. nd code (no-drain) at the end of the cycle and when I opened the door the machine was still full of water. I took the back panel off the washer and disconnected the drain hose from the pump. (You're going to get quite a bit of water gushing out at you so be prepared with towels or a shop vac.) At this point you should see a little rubber disc over the end of the section you just exposed on the pump. This is a little drain flap. Just lift it up and you should be able to see into the pump a little bit. At this point I poked around in there with my finger and found a hair pin stuck in the pump! I wasn't able to get it out from this end of the pump so I disconnected the big rubber boot which connects the wash drum to the pump. Then I was able to twist the pump (counter clock-wise) and release it from the washer base. I didn't have to disconnect any wires and was then able to see into the other side of the pump and pull the hairpin out. Put everything back together and it's worked fine ever since. I've never even looked inside a washing machine before but it really was really fairly simple. Now my husband really does think I'm a domestic Goddess. I said he should take me out to dinner with the money we saved on a service call!!

If the lid
switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at
all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the
door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the
washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid
switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't
fill with water until you replace the fuse.

top loader ??? or front loader??? if top loader you have broken your lid switch, will fill, agitate, but when it comes to drain/spin for safety reasons if the unit doent recognize the lid closed it will not advance...if yo have a front loader then i would suspect that something has gotten into the pump assy and preventing drainiing of water therefore will not spin

This is now the 3rd time this has happened. The 1st 2 times it cost me ~$100 to have a technician come in and fix.
This time, I did it easily. For my Maytag Neptune washer, I removed the back panel (2 screws). On the bottom tray is the water discharge pump. On the output side of the pump there is a small cavity under the rubber flapper where a nickle fits perfectly. I removed the nickle, reattached the output drain line. started it up ...
and viola! the problem solved.

you might have a problem with the lid switch..there is a plunger on the bottom side of the lid, close to the front edge which operates the lid switch..if the switch is broken, it probably has become torn apart so, if you can identify the two wires that would've been on the switch, you can just twist them together, tape them and the machine will operate normally, until you can get the switch from Sears... because I have a service contract with Sears, I don't pay for the repair (twice) they normally charge dearly both for the part and labor..
