What model is the hvac unit that it is hooked to? There is a high possibility that the wires are not hooked up right. You should check the connections at the hvac and see if they are color coded and wired right.

Testimonial: "This just started happening so it can't be the wiring."

Whn you said new thermostat, I believed that you had just installed in. The problem is most likely in the hvac unit tthough. What is the make and model?

Why does my window ac is set on thermastat but comes on and off to quickly

Hello friend, thanks for the post!

From my understanding your Frigidaire air conditioner is rapidly turning on and off, this could be due to restricted air flow. First, I would check to make sure the air filter is clean because a restricted air filter could cause this problem. Secondly, check to make sure nothing is blocking the air flow like drapes, blinds, or furniture. Lastly, your condenser coil could be dirty or blocked I would make sure if it installed in the window that no bushes or trees are blocking the coil. I hope this helps. -Matt

Thermostat

Heat pump Thermastats have Terminals RYW/OW2 G C. I run into this a lot with people buying tStats at home depot. To wire three sages of heat you must have correct tstat. one stage cool and three stage heat. You have to have enough wires at the Tstat. I use white first stage brown second and grey or black third. Make a diagram where each wire goes. Remember to trun of air handler power or you will short the transformer or blow low voltage fuse. Yellow cool, green fan, most of the time blue is c unless it is a battery tstat. orange is O. Red R ot power wire. Rusty

One year old heater

Try to hold the button down for 30 seconds at least before turning the knob to ON.
If you are doing this and it still goes out after you let up on the knob, then it may needs a new flame sensor.
