General you need to format the HHD - set it to active then give it a drive letter.

It is probably partitioned. Right click on "my computer" select "Manage" and then look at the disk manager. You will find that the rest of the drive is there, but un partitioned and un formatted.

Is the hard drive full check it by going to my computer see the hard drive go to properties check that and then see how much space is available. I highly recommend a bigger hard drive especially if you download things quite a bit or move files to another source external USB flash drives work well or external drive will do the job. Check the space if it is fine and you have enough room then something in one of those files is stopping the drive from working. Reformat get all you can off of it then install the software Operating software again starting over fresh. I usually do my drives about 1 or twice a month reinstall software back to its original so that I do not get packed with junk I do not have to deal with or see. Also it is advisable to clean and defrag disks frequently some will tell you do not have to do this I can tell you since I have been doing for over 20 years now I just do not have problems with my computers.
