Screen displaying multiple colored vertical lines

Compaq Presario c500 Notebook. Right after the welcome page, the screen displays multiple colored vertical lines that cover the entire screen. Has the screen gone bad? I would greatly appreciate any help with this matter. Thank you!

Take out battery from laptop and disconnect power cable. Keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds and then plug the power cable. This will remove static charge from laptop and should resolve the display issue,

My Compaq presario CQ42 has a white-red thin line at the right corner of the screen. Is it a problem to use the laptop with it before I fix it.

@tharindupedu

If you see a Vertical/Horizontal colored lines on your LCD, that means either the Video Card, LCD, or the LCD Flex cable (this is the cable that connects your motherboard to your LCD screen) are going bad and needs replacement. You can still use your laptop though but I strongly recommend having it fixed ASAP before it gets worse. You're still under warranty, call HP/Compaq at 1-800-652-6672.

Good luck.

Multiple lines on screen

Try connecting an external monitor to the your laptop and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Yes the problem is with your video system hardware, most likely. A repair may be possible as it could be the delicate ribbon cable that provides the video signal from a connection on the motherboard to the actual display screen. It could be the display screen. If some tech-savy friend with a good rep and an anti-static mat, good tools, and good lighting wants to assist you or check it for you, you may give that a try. Consider first that if you have or can get an extended warranty from the manufacturer then you can have a higher likelihood of a good resolution of the problem of the vertical lines that distract from viewing the display.

Two vertical lines on my compaq presario (M2000)

Hello,

Try changing your screen desktop resolution to a different value. If you still have verticle lines, then try changing the color depth from 32bit to 24 or 16. If the problem remains your display adapter has completely failed. It has failed to compute column row addressing math.

Naturally, you would want to find and install the latest drivers for your display adapter with the hope that the failure is in the software driving the display adapter and not an onboard chip. If updating your drivers fails to resolve the issue you need to have service performed on your laptop. Most laptops have the display adapter soldered on the main circuit board and many shops are capable of replacing this chip set.

Yet, get a quote first as the cost might cause you to consider an upgrade into a laptop that has a display adapter that is Direct X 9c or Direct X 10 ready as that will run most of the new game titles coming out this year.

Let me know if you have any further need of assistance as you run through the above troubleshooting routine.

I do hope this has fixed ya!
