Not happy with Maytag Neptune TL Washer

I have the Maytag Neptune TL Washer and have not been happy with it. The clothes end up in a big twisted knot which causes the machine to be unbalanced and not finish it's cycle. This happens even when I put then in the washer individually and not tangled up. Also I can only wash HUGE loads. When I was a small load it goes unbalanced and won't spin out the clothes. Any suggestions or information you can give me?

I assume you are taking dc/UC errors to the console. This is a classic problem with the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW after the 3yr to 5 yr mark. I own the machine and decided to learn what was involved to repair the machine. Take a look at this post and see if will give you some insight to a DIY fix to resolve the unbalance errors. No fix for the tumbler action of twisting up the clothes. After a re-lube of the one-way roller clutch bearing I could wash a single pair of socks or over load the wash basket with bath towels and extra water in the tub with no unbalance errors (dc/UC).

Shout back if you have any questions.

Here is a quick test for the TSD sensor but I believe you have a clutch issue. The TDS test is in the SM I’ve typed it out if you want to give a quick check. I’m sure you will pass and find the one-way roller clutch berings are dry/rusted and causing the dc/UC unbalance condition.

3.0 Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check.

It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is in the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.

3a. Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

3b. Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

3c. Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

3d. Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

3e. Press Hand Wash.

3f. Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). If you get these results your Tub Displacement sensor should be OK and I believe it’s not the component failure producing dc/UC errors in spin cycle. I would remove the clutch for inspection and re-lube or replace if necessary. There is a more technical troubleshooting method to check Tub Displacement Sensor in the Troubleshooting guide and Service manual.

We just moved and the house came with a Maytag Neptune TL which won't spin if there are clothes in the cylinder. It will spin empty. Please help! Thanks.

Washer bangs around in spin cycle and throws a DC or UC unballance code with cloths in the wash basket is that correct?

If so it's a Clutch issue.

If you want read more about what I feel is your issue read this post Maytag Neptune load unbalance

I have a Maytag Neptune TL, it won't unlock and still shows 22 minutes left to wash...I just would like to get in unlocked for now, and take my clothes out...Thanks you!

If the Lid Locks won't release you can release the Washer top from the base. You need a putty knife and press in to release the.

Un plug the washer from the 120VAC outlet.

Insert a plastic putty knife in line with the lid seam and

push in to release catches on the left and right side.
Yhe top cover is hinged at the rear.

My Maytag TL Neptune will not go through a complete cycle without getting out of balance. I have to keep adding towels to increase the size of the load. My clothes are all twisted when done. My towels...

This machine is very easy to repair but because of its short production run I feel most repair folks don't much hands on to repair. So I dove in to prevent a $1K machine from going to an early grave. See this post of the UC and dC unbalance errors and how to fix. Clutch repair post

Most of these machines are ready for a Tub Seal replacement which I have done............Rich
