Run a test of your internet using www.speedtest.net. You should be seeing ping less than 100 ms, and your download and upload speeds will vary depending on your service. Do you have cable, isdn, dsl, or fiber? cable and fiber should give you speeds of at least 10Mb down 10 Mb up, ISDN and DSL should give you speeds around 500kbps down and 250kbps up.
Are you sure that the speed-test is reporting 2.5 Kbps? Could it be 2.5 Mbits/second?
Have you closed all other network-using applications (Limewire? Windows Update? Adobe Updater?)
Note that some DSL-providers have different levels of speed, for different monthly payments,
e.g., $20/month for 512Kbit/second, $40/month for 1.5Mbit/second, and $60/month for 2.5Mbit/second. Pay your ISP more per month to higher higher speeds.
Run a speed test on your DSL, here: http://speedtest.net/ When your test has completed, call up your ISP and see if this is a normal speed rating for your DSL. If it is and you are not happy with the speed, you should upgrade your internet to either fiberoptic (if it is available in your area), fast DSL, or cable internet. Also post your results here and I will walk you through speeding up your computer. please rate my solution
I would ask the isp to send me the latest modem, sometimes there is an incomapatability between the modem and router. Also I suggest to clients tha they only use linksys, now "cisco". after trying most others including Belkin I just found there were aways problems somewhware with them. Also you may need you settings optomised for better connection speed. Therre are speed tests. like pcpitstop.com, that offer free speed tests to make sure you are getting what you are paying for. Also a sight called DSL reports, that you can run several tests to determine speed throughput packet loss etc. try that first, good luck
Access the configuration page of the DSL (Example 192.168.1.1 under status there the section to check the IP address and for the speed test open the status of the LAN adapter to check the speed of connection.
It is OK to keep putting the UN and PW in. However you shouldn't have to. I suggest having a tech come to your home and have them do a signal test both at your jack and outside with your home unplugged from your service box. If there is a big difference in the numbers then you're simply loosing signal due to signal bleed inside. This is a simple fix. Have them isolate some wires in your jack and place a DSL filter outside. Then your DSL signal will go straight to your modem and not bounce all over your home. This will NOT affect your phone.
Try testing the speed, go to this website and see what results you get. It takes a couple of minute so so be a bit patient.

If it's slow, report it to your DSL supplier.
