The ERROR message usually indicates that you've tried to program a frequency outside the scanner's tuning range. The BC60XLT top tuning range is the 512 MHz band, so you cannot tune any 800 MHz frequencies. For further information you can download and print the factory manual, at no cost, here:
The BC60XLT does not have a global search feature. In fact, this simple scanner has no search feature of any kind. Reception is limited to 10 user-programmable frequencies and 7 factory-programmed NOAA weather frequencies. If you need a manual for your scanner you can download it here:
Should have a button that reads "PROGRAM". Push it first, then enter your frequency (example 154.55). Then push button marked "ENTER".
Depending on the frequency range that you entered it will take it or state Error. Let me know how you do.
