Hello. I have a unique problem. I have a Windows Vista home premium system that can ping to my gateway and other systems on the local network but can not ping beyond my gateway and can not browse the...

If you can PING your gateway, then there was no need for the 'WINSOCK FIX'.

Access the web-server "inside" the router, and look at the table of DHCP clients -- confirm that your computer's "wired" and "wireless" connections are listed, and that they have been assigned IP-addresses.

The router should have its own 'PING' interface, so try PING-ing to 'ns.watson.ibm.com' -- you should get output like:

Pinging ns.watson.ibm.com [129.34.20.80] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 129.34.20.80: bytes=32 time=126ms TTL=241
Reply from 129.34.20.80: bytes=32 time=103ms TTL=241
Reply from 129.34.20.80: bytes=32 time=91ms TTL=241
Reply from 129.34.20.80: bytes=32 time=93ms TTL=241

if your router has an Internet connection.

I am trying to secure my new erricson G32 router and the installer told me to put 192.168.11 in the address bar and then select ericsson, I just get the search page and don't know where to go from there?

try pinging that address
xp start > run > type in "cmd" should bring up a black window. in this window type "ping 192.168.1.1"
vista/windows 7 orb> type in "cmd" the rest should be the same as above
you should get a response similar to:
Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=64
if so make sure you type the full address of the router with the http://
http://192.168.1.1

Cannot connect to 192.168.1.1

You must check if your PC is getting correct IP from your router by running ipconfig on DOS command. The Default Gateway must shows 192.168.1.1. Just to be sure this IP is accessible, run a ping test (Ping 198.168.1.1).

C:\Users\PC>ping 10.1.1.1

Pinging 10.1.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

Ping statistics for 10.1.1.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

C:\Users\PC>

You will see the above results if the test is successful. If it failed, possible a Firewall is blocking the PC to access the Router. Try to disable it and see if it will works. If the same issue or even the test passed but can't access the IP address, reset the router to factory defaults by pressing the small hole at the back of the router. Then do the above steps again to see if you can now access it. Hope this helps.

Reply from 209.131.36.158: bytes=32 time=37ms TTL=56

If so, then your Internet connection is working fine.
If not, then you have no Internet connection.

WLAN having consistant high latency with frequent all-out fail

I would suggest borrowing a different known working wireless adapter, and test trying that. Or test using a wired connection, just to prove it is the adapter. Perhaps the wireless adapter you are using is flaky.

Repeater cuts out

I would suggest a few things 1) see if a firmware update for the device 2) It may be a DNS issue can you post the model what status are the lights on the repeater next do an IPCONFIG /ALL - see later and some ping tests to see if its a DNS ISSUE ipconfig /all TWO Methods to do that - some people have problems with ONE---- ONE --------------------------------- start run cmd ipconfig /all rightclick in the box select all enter control key + C key - to copy then reply here and control key + V to paste TWO ----------------------------------------------- Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type: IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here. NEXT lets see if you can get out onto the internet with both names and IP's - its possible the IP number you get back on the first test is different to the one I post {I'm in UK} so use the number you get instead of mine ------------------------------------------------ try ping the name and then the IP see below start run cmd C:\Documents and Settings\wayne>ping {the default gateway ipaddress you got above } C:\Documents and Settings\wayne>ping google.com
Pinging google.com [64.233.187.99] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 64.233.187.99: bytes=32 time=120ms TTL=243 Reply from 64.233.187.99: bytes=32 time=107ms TTL=243 Reply from 64.233.187.99: bytes=32 time=102ms TTL=243 Reply from 64.233.187.99: bytes=32 time=101ms TTL=243 Ping statistics for 64.233.187.99: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 101ms, Maximum = 120ms, Average = 107ms C:\Documents and Settings\wayne>ping 64.233.187.991 Ping request could not find host 64.233.187.991.
