SOURCE: can't remove motor cover for electrolux EL2050

usually there are screws on the bottom, normally 6-12 screws. Once they are out, there may tabs on the outside of the base fram, lightly use two flat head screw drivers and pull the cover away from the base.. be gentle as this plastic is thin, and could break. You will also need to make sure that the handle assembly is in the down position as the cover can get caught up in the handle when you try to remove it.

SOURCE: The cord on my electrolux Epic 6500 has been

There are two keys holding the body together, underneath the bumpers on the side of the vac. With the bag door open these keys when gripped with pliers will slide forward to release the body panels.

Before opening the vac, gently push the cord back inside the housing.
2 possibilities:
If the spool rotates and allows the cord to push in , the body must be disassembled, and the cord winder removed and the spring reloaded. This is tricky work. you will need to wind the entire cord onto the spool, then load 3.5 rotations onto the coil spring for tensioning, then reassemble. It's a bit like working on a land mine of you're new at it. Wear safety glasses.

BUT if the spool is locked from the outside and the cord wont push in or pull out, a fine , long blade screwdriver can be inserted diagonal to the body through the cord slot and with luck you can lift a cog of the spool releasing tension and the rewind will work. try that first , but be gentle . You must release the cord spool allowing a a dog ear catch cog to release inside by gently lifting upwards.
Post back to say how you made out,
Or look for an AERUS Electrolux service shop.

Electroluxl modelel6984a how to access cod reel

Turn Guardian on it's back, remove all screws from around the perimeter of the base, turn vacuum over on its' wheels, and pull up on entire casing (after removing HEPA Filter on top). It will come off but do so gently as to not disturb original parts settings inside. With 30 yrs. experience dealing almost exclusively with the original Electrolux, I have a legitimate store front business and do service by mail at a reasonable cost if interested. [email protected]
Hope that helps! Mick

Cord won't stay out, it keeps going back in

when pulling the cord out, it should 'keep' it that spot if you pull a certain direction, cant recall if it is up, or down, left or right, and pulling it opposite direction releases the cord again

I have an Electrolux Guardian Canister vacuum. The power cord was damaged but the cord winder still works fine. I have ordered a replacement cord and need to know how to remove the old cord and install...

I strongly suggest allowing a qualified service tech at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store take care of this. The disassembly and reassembly of the tank and cordwinder are tricky and complicated and incorrect reassembly can cause serious problems. Even to the extent of permanently damaging your vacuum, or worse, result in a shock hazard or fire.

Frayed power cord on electrolux canister vacuum

1 screw in the front, two in the blower port. take them out and the top bezel comes off. one screw in the bottom and two on the top. need a flat blade screw driver to pry out the cord reel. 4 screws holds the sheild of the reel. take them out and there is a snap ring that hold the reel on the shaft. the reel assembly and drum spring comes out at the same time. 3 screws on the bottom of the reel holding a metal plate and there is also snap ring hold the spring on the metal plate take that off and will expose the cord connection. unhook the the cord and untie the knot and replace the cord and reverse the process

Electrolux LE, cord retractor not working

This happens when the spring inside the cord reel fails. The reel can't be fixed, but can be replaced. A Google search for Electrolux parts turned up several sources. Here's a link to one company I have dealt with in the past:
http://www.totalvac.com/accessory/parts/EXR-3075ES.html

Replacement isn't too difficult if you're comfortable with hand tools and have some patience. Hope this helps and good luck on the repair!

Electrolux Oxygen 3

Most cord reels have a stop on it, it is a rubber wheel and when dust gets on the wheel, they won't always stop the reel. It would have to be opend up to get to the cord reel, then you could clean it out.

Oxygen 3 will not turn on

This is often caused by a failure of a fuse on the Sumo board, or occasionally by a failure of the cord reel. I just posted a rather extensive set of instructions on how to check these things as a response to a different thread, but I will repost them here:

--
There is a board in the back (called the "SUMO board") which has a fuse hardwired to it. Most of the "no go" problems with this machine are related to this.

In order to check it, you'll want to take a thin flat-head screwdriver, and gently pry up the silver panel on the top of the machine. The easiest place to do this is on the side of the panel, as far toward the rear of the machine as possible.

You will then need to remove the 2 Torx screws on the rear panel, and the top body of the machine should then be able to be removed. There are two clips in the bag chamber, directly under the back portion of the bag compartment lid, which can be pressed in to facilitate removal of the back cover.

The sumo board will be sitting directly on the top of the machine, and the fuse in question will be on the right if you are looking at it from the rear of the machine. Unfortunately, if the fuse is blown, you will have to replace the entire circuit board. (Unless you feel very comfortable with soldering a new fuse onto it, which I do not recommend for safety reasons.)

You can also check continuity of the cord reel from here. On the right hand side of the board are two spade terminals leading to wires running down into the cord reel assembly. One black, one white. Checking the continuity between these terminals and the ends of the power supply cord will allow you to determine if the cord reel is providing power to the machine.

Accessing the cord reel will require you to remove the six Torx screws holding the main body to the base. Two of these are on the rear of the machine, and are very deep inside; so you will require a very long-shanked Torx driver to get at these. Two more are inside the bag chamber at the rear, and the other two are on the front handle assembly. This will allow you to lift the main body away from the base, and if you are replacing the cord reel you can pull the wires from the spade terminals and the socket on the sumo board, and feed them back down into the cord reel chamber to remove the old cord reel.

Reassembly is simply a reverse of the previous. Beware, however: getting the cord reel to align is something of a chore, so make sure that you have the retraction system functioning before you put the whole thing back together, or you'll be bummed when you finish reassembly and the cord won't retract.
(I've definitely never done that. Nope. Never.)

Hope that helps, good luck.
