SOURCE: the itunes doesn't recognize my ipod classic

you restored your ipod correct? (just the music is erased) not format ? (ipod is zapped)....ok..lets play with the restore part...plug up ipod to pc....do not open itunes (close it, x it out) ...go to my computer you should see a new drive on it (ipod)....double click ipod and copy the software (from ipod) it should be 4 folders and hidden files too...paste it to a temp folder on the pc....now right click ipod drive and format it (yes this will erase everything on it)...once format is completed reinstall the software from the temp folder back to ipod......now this is finish....update itunes to the newest version (even if u have it already overwrite it)....you now have a brand new ipod...........

in the beginning i ask if you restored or formatted (if you had formatted, you would not find nor see any software)......you would be better off asking a friend/family if they have the same ipod can you copy just the software (you would copy their software to a temp file, then on to yours same as above) .........i hope this works out for u.....feel free to rate the help

SOURCE: ipod nano 16gb won't connect with pc(itunes).

Hi,
Is your ipod nano fully charged? and your installed iTunes the latest version?
Please make sure it is charged, and the new iTunes is downloaded and installed from here please do the following steps:
Connect ipod nano to PC. Make sure iTunes is already open prior to connecting it.
If this is the first time you are connecting then your PC will automatically install Apple Mobile Device Driver.
Once installation of the driver is complete, you should see the ipod nano logo appear within iTunes very soon. and start using it.

Ipod classic manual

Your ipod may be corrupted and will need to be wiped and restored.
First of all try another lead to connect your ipod to pc.
Also look inside bottom of ipod to check no bent pins in ipod dock.
Also reinstall itunes incase of program corruption.
If still not working you will have to put ipod in disk mode.
Switch ipod off then switch hold button on and off then hold down centre putton and bottom pause button until TICK appears. You are in Disk mode.
Go to file explorer and right click your ipod if shown,Chose FORMAT then chose restore device defaults and restore. Once formatted open itunes and connect ipod with good lead.Ipod can now be restored from backup or a clean restore can be done

Ipod 120 classic backs up only 231 songs

Sometimes it is easiest to start over. In the case of the popular iPod, clearing the hard drive is the easiest way to remove the files and restore the drive. The process is rather basic using the Apple iTunes software. Once your 120 GB iPod is restored, you can quickly sync all of your songs saved on your computer back onto the iPod. Properly complete the restoration process and enjoy your revitalized iPod.
Open the iTunes application on your computer. If you do not yet have the iTunes application, you can download it from Apple's website for free. From there you can easily download and install it. Open the folders on your computer which contain your saved music files and drag and drop them into iTunes. If prompted to convert to M4a, select "Convert." Connect your 120GB iPod to the computer using the provided USB cable. Click the "Restore" button on the main screen in iTunes, then click "Restore" a second time once prompted to initiate the restore process. Click the "Next" option, then "OK" once the restoration is complete. Your music will no longer be on your iPod, but will remain in your iTunes library. Click the "Sync" button on the bottom left side of the iTunes screen to sync the music library with the iPod.

Itunes cannot read the contents of my ipod classic

Hello;

You state that after doing a restore, all data is deleted. This would require that you put data on your iPod before the restore. But if every time you connect your iPod, iTunes cannot read your iPod, how are you putting data on your iPod?

My ipod has a circle red x on it and wont respond

First try resetting the iPod. If this does not work then restore it.
To RESET IPOD: 1 Toggle the Hold switch on and off (slide it to HOLD and then back again). 2 Press and hold the Menu and Center buttons for at least 6 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
To RESTORE IPOD To update or restore iPod classic: 1 Make sure you have an Internet connection and have installed the latest version of iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/?ipod 2 Connect iPod classic to your computer. 3 In iTunes, select iPod classic in the source list and click the Summary tab. The Version section tells you whether iPod classic is up to date or needs a newer version of the software.
In Restore all data is erased from iPod classic, including songs, videos, files, contacts, photos, calendar information, and any other data. All iPod classic settings are restored to their original state.

The volume control is locked

The ONLY way to resolve this issue is to restore using iTunes. iTunes will restore the iPod. It is recommended to only have one iPod connected to one computer at a time. Also shairring your library should not cause the iTunes to not restore your iPod. If you are not wanting to restore the iPod due to not wanting to loose music, you will have to choose between unlocking the volume limit and keeping music.

Changed computers

I'm making an assumption that iTunes was working before on the other computer, and now that you have switched computers, the Nano is not being recognized by iTunes?

Try this, from Apple's website:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
Summary Learn how to restore iPod, iPod classic, iPod mini, and iPod nano to factory settings.
If you need to restore an iPod shuffle, click here.
Background It is important to understand the difference between "update" and "restore". Update simply installs the software that controls iPod and does not affect the songs and files stored on iPod's disk. Restore erases the iPod's disk and restores iPod to its original factory condition.
Warning: because Restore erases all of the songs and files on iPod, make sure to back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library. If you use the Nike + iPod Sport Kit, see this document for more information.
Products Affected iPod, iPod mini, iPod nano, iPod classic
How to restore iPod

    • Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
    • Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
    • Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software available.
