The belt tensioner is a spring loaded plunger mounted at the 8 o'clock position from the passengers side facing the engine. remove it to loosen the belt. to reset the tensioner compress it in a vise, put a pin in the hole through the plunger and sleeve when it is aligned. When you are ready to tighten.the belt pull the pin out.

There is always a timing belt tensionor in the system. Its a free running bearing on a wheel that is used to compress the T-belt. Find this under the timing cover plate or plastic cover. You may need alan keys or a special socket to tighten the bolts & nuts..

Car squeeks when turning the stearing wheel

check whether you have a loose steering belt. Open the bonnet and go by the belts side and check the tension of the steering belt which is very easy to check as it is the one fitted closer to the radiator front .If it is loose then tight it by using a 12mm ring spanner and loose the nut of the tensioner which is lower of the power steering pulley in front of the timing belt cover and by using a T-10 tool turn the bolt which is behind the tensioner and easy to see, until the belt is tight. After do so remember to tight the nut of the tensioner and start the car.

How do i tighten the timing belt tension on a 1999 dodge stratus

The belt tensioner is not adjustable. To loosen a tensioner you would swivel the belt tensioner away from the belt with a long flex wrench or ratchet and to tighten the belt you would let the spring in the tensioner move the swivel back into the tight position. An internal spring tightens the tensioner pulley against the belt. You will need to get a smaller belt or replace the tensioner if the belt is "too loose" after you swivel it back into the tight position against the belt and release pressure.

I have a 85 cutlass with a 350 engine i need to know what belt i need it sqeeks very lound dnt seem to have the answer for it. It stops when the cluth fans kick but when it first start

i`m guessing that you are trying to find out which belt is making the noise.first you need to push on each belt to see if the belts tight and not to loose,at the same time check the sides of the belts for a glaze or shiny sides as well as cracks in the belt .any belt that is to loose may just need to be tightened, any belt that is glazed or cracked needs to be replaced.if the condition of the belt is good then it probably just needs to be tightened.a trick to find which belt that maybe just loose enough is to take a wax candle or a bar of soap and with the engine running(being very careful around moving components) take and apply the wax to each side of the belt one belt at a time, when the noise stops that is the belt that needs attention either by replacement or tighting

Can i adjust accesory belt tension without a guage?

Serpentine belts?....yes. Absolutely. Timing belts...no. Drive belts should be tight, but not too tight. If too tight, it could cause noise because of the pressure put on the affected pulley bearings. Too loose can cause poor charging of the alternator, lose of power steering when the wheel is cut to much either way, or squeeling.

How do I tell if the timing belt is bad. I have the covers off. The crank timing mark is at TDC. the cam marks are also aligned When I first got the covers off the timing belt seemed loose and I could...

Timing belts are supposed to be replaced in intervals, on this vehicle every 60,000 miles. The timing belt may look good, but they mostly stretch over time. As for the looseness and becoming tight, its because there is different compression tension that pull either way. But to be loose to the point you can spin the tensioner pulley, replace everything (belt, tensioner, idler pulley, water pump)!!

Very loose belt, can i tighten it

A loose belt is usually the result of a tensioner that is going bad. Check the tensioner, if you can move it with your hand it's time to replace it. The tensioner is designed to keep the belt tight as it get's older and stretches.

Loud squealin from power steering belt

Check the tension of the power steering belt.
It is probably loose and slipping - belts can stretch during their initial run in period.
