I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem. I found one posting elsewhere that said that this was a "common" problem. That person's camera was under warranty. Mine isn't, but it's less than 2 years old.

Unless the estimate is taken from a service dealer it cannot be confirmed if the work is expensive, if the display has to be replaced or if ther is only a small error in the board.

The shutter is jammed shut, lens unit needs to be serviced.

The camera displays an inverted image on the LCD camera screen or when you view the image on windows vista? If it is Vista what program are you using to view the image? If it is the camera check the settings on the camera for the special effects settings and see if the image inversion setting is on. Ther could also be a problem with the LCD display on the camera.

E18 means you have a mechanical failure it's depend from the zoomunit. If you can fix it by yourself you can clean the small gearbox that is driven the zoom assy sometimes ther is sand or contamination partikels in it.
Otherwise you must replace the zoomunit it's not so expencive.

ther should be a small button below the menu botton try pressing this a few times this a energy saving device .hope this helps.

u cant remove it is purely ther so u dont confuse the fact ur on video with still camera

The hand with parenthesis is your image stabilization. It sounds like if your images are turning out black, you may need service.

Try hitting your display button a few times and see if anything shows up on the screen.
