How can I stop the tone arm from returning too early on smaller records?

I am playing a record that is slightly smaller than the standard 33.3 record (not quite a 45). However, the tone arm is returning to rest about half way through the final track of each side. Any suggestions?

The adjustment for auto return position is normally at the tone arm base on the left side under a rubber grommet. Use a flat blade screw driver to move adjustment screw, then test. Keep fine tuning until arm lifts at desired position. Cheers John. Stylus City NZ

SOURCE: Tone arm keeps returning to rest on Crosley CR249

Hi, Try this. with it turned off. Lift tone arm across a record to the run out groove and set it down. Now power up and hopefully it will reset itself. In all honesty I would sell it and get a decent old school player. John. Styluscity.com

Haven't worked on one of these, but there is an end of travel arm sensor that needs adjustment, or is possible broken. You will have to get inside to check it out, and adjust or fix it.
If you don't feel comfortable fixing it yourself, contact Crosley support:

Good luck, and hope this helps.

SOURCE: My record spins fine when

It would appear you have a problem with the "Cuing mechanism" this is quite a common problem. This link below will assist you to understand about it.

What you need to do is locate a service manual for your exact make and model, in there you will find the necessary troubleshooting steps to take to isolate and cure your issue. However I have had a look and have been unable to locate any, perhaps a direct approach to the manufacturer may yield one?
It can often simply be a faulty switch, the "Mode Switch" this is simply replaced, however to obtain this one ,must have the parts number, the ONLY place this is available is in a service manual. Sometimes it is the belt or drive? it is usually something quite simple, often it's obvious once the TT is disassembled.
should you not wish to DIY, simply find a competent Turntable repair place and ask first for a "Quote" once appraised of the costings etc, then go from there.

The tone-arm on my turntable automatically stops too early. Is there any way to fix this?

Yes. you need to set the travel on your arm. I don't know your specific model but they are all the same concept. On the back by the pivot point there should be a small screw that you can adjust the travel before it returns.

My turntable a Crosley CR49 is about 14 years old. It plays just fine, but have to manually reset, clicking the tone arm after every record I play, either 45s or 33 1/3. How Can I fix this?

You will need to get to the underside of the turntable. There you should find that the arm when it gets to the centre of the record it will push on a switch. This switch might be out of position or just get stuck by grease or dirt. Correcting it should solve the problem.

Record player repair

The top arm that swings over the spindle will control the automatic return. Leave the unit off. Swing the overhead holding top arm over and manually load a record. Now switch the top arm over the niddle spindle. Make sure that the switch is set for 7", 10" or 12" (45, 78, or 33). Manually place the tonearm at the start of the record and flip switch to 'play' (not reject or auto). It should play the whole record and automatically eject at the end and then shut off. Leave the arm swung over the middle after you loaded the record. Good luck. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hitachi Troubleshooting

Check to see if you have a setting to change between 33 or 45. If set to the wrong setting for the size record you are playing the tone arm will pick up incorrectly.

Bic 960 turntable tonearm drop position

The service manual shows the adjustment for the tone arm set down position is accessed from the top of the unit. It is in front and to the right of the pivot point of the tone arm. The other problem is something that I can not diagnose here but I am providing a link to the service manual. You will have to set up a free account with vinyle engine. The service manual is a free download.

Early tone arm pickup

On some record players there is an adjusting screw at the back of the tone arm that adjusts the tone arm drop in location but I don't think it will adjust the pick up point. That is controled by a steel rod under the record player deck that moves over and pushes a little trip lever near the center of the platter so that a gear is engauged and the end of record cycle is started. I'm not sure but you may be able to find an adjustment under the deck that is near the rotation point of the tone arm that will adjust that rod so that it will pickup later. Hope this helps some.
