I've had my camera for about 3 years now and have never had any problems until a couple of weeks ago. When I turned the camera on, it forced me to reset date/time and would occasionally show aperture 00 and not take a picture. Turning the camera off and then on again, or removing and replacing the battery temporarily took care of the problem. Now I am getting the ERR 01 and can not take pics at all, regardless of which lens I use or whether I am using the IS option. I've tried cleaning the contacts but this does not seem to help. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the response. I should have mentioned a couple of things in the previous posting. I am using the Canon Battery Pack that comes with the camera. Also, I have set the date/time, but still get the ERR 01. Then when I remove and replace the battery it forces me to reset date/time again. I just thought that was odd because I never had to reset the date/time in the past. Maybe it is time to replace the battery.

Try getting new trusted brand batteries like duracell, And also if it forces you to change the D/T just change it. Also try getting a new memory card. (trusted brand). If none of this works then there might be a prob. Maybe someone dropped it. Try asking the company 2.

Hope this helps

I have somewhat of a solution. im having the same problem with my XT. ive owned it for about 5 years now, it was working fine until about 4 months ago. now 70% of the time it wont focus or shoot.
oddly enough i found that if i shoot with a cable release (about $5 on eBay) it works every time.

I haven't turned the camera on for a couple of years. I've tried charging the battery, but I can't get it to power up. Do I need to replace battery or is it something else?

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

C-8080 Turns off/on randomly..

Hi Galaxy,

Try running camera directly on DC from charger and see if it stays functioning.
If it does, they you either have:-
1) a faulty Lion battery
2) the battery detect circuit in the camera is faulty (reporting low battery and forcing shutdown)
3) the power switch on top of the camera may be leaky or partially collapsed
4) internal power supply circuit in camera has developed a fault.

Good luck...hope that the issue is the battery.
