The solution is to take your sim card out of the phone, insert another sim card and switch on. After a few minutes remove this sim card and re-insert your original sim card. The voicemail symbol will now be removed.
In most cases you need to call your service provider and have them remove the voicemail feature from your account. You can have it re added when you return, though you will need to set it up again.
The only way to fix it without your vendor getting envolved is to try to reboot your voicemail server/phone switch(depending on the model of your system it can be inside of your switch or separate computer).
Your voicemail is down right now
Sounds like the voicemail either locked up or died. Try turning off/unplugging the phone system for about 10 seconds and see if it that takes care of it. If it fails then it might be time to get a new one.
