SOURCE: Ribbon keeps breaking

It might be because the printhead is heating up too high, and burning the ribbon.
Try lowering the heat in the driver.

SOURCE: bad print heads

This is a continuing problem we have with our Fargo DTC550 printer. If you remove the printhead from the printer and look at the underside you will see a nick on the head in the same area you are getting a line on your card. Fargo claims we damaged the head due to not keeping the printer clean even though we clean at every ribbon change. I believe that the damage happens when a plastic debris (from the plastic card) gets between the card and the head. You must check your card stock to make sure there is no plastic debris on them. Bottom line, you have to replace the head and at the time it costs $700 per head.

SOURCE: Fargo 4250 card printer runs, but doesn't print.

take the ribbon out, and rewind it a little bit and see if you see print on it. if you dont, chances are your printhead is either bad or has loose cables going into it.

if you do see print, either your card is not aligning properly or the head lift motor might not be working (when the unit on, open the door, and press both buttons at the same time and see if the printhead does an up and down motion), platen roller is bad

Minolta magicolor 2300W printer colors are incorrect; color toner levels are 50% or more.

Check that you intalled toners in the correct way, eventually remove cartridges, and repeat toner installing procedure.
Check if it is just a color adjustment problem on printer settings.

How do I print edge to edge on Fargo HDP5000?

Access the printer-driver settings (Windows=>Devices and Printers=>Right-click on device, select "Printing Preferences"). Next, click the "Image Transfer" tab. Here you can make some adjustments to the image position - both vertically and horizontally.

If this doesn't help, double-check your page-size and print-parameters in your software. You should be outputting to a "CR80" sized card, and (if present) your margin settings should be 0 for all of top, bottom, left, and right.

If that doesn't help, then you may have to perform ribbon and/or film calibrations. These are available through the "Self Test" menus within the Printer Information screen of the (free) Fargo Workbench Utility program.

The printer is saying printing started and printing complete but yet their is nothing printing at all; the print jobs are collecting in the queue. Printer keeps telling me alignment problems when I...

It sounds like it is trying to print an alignment sheet, so that the printer can then scan the sheet, and see how bad it is off, if any. Start here.

Look in your user manual to see how to force an alignment check. There is also usually a setting in the driver as well (icon in the system tray near the clock).

The color is not adjusted right.

The first step is to determine whether the problem is in the printer or the driver.
Run an alignment test and then, using the printer menu, print a picture that is within the printer.

If the internal picture has the same problem, and all ink cartridges are flowing properly (you will be able to tell from the alignment test), printer replacement is going to be the least expensive repair.

If the internal picture prints ok, then try printing a picture from the computer again. If that gives you the old problem, disconnect the printer from the computer. Then, uninstall the printer, reboot twice and reinstall the driver, hooking up the printer when asked.

Edge to edge print problem

The Fargo DTC550 will not be able to print an "over the edge" card. Any Direct To Card printers will have a white line on the edges. There are several printers that are able to print covering the entire card, those printers are called Reverse Transfer or Fargo's High Definition Printers. One printer that I do recommend is the Fargo HDP5000, you can read more about it at: http://printers.idcardgroup.com/productdetails.aspx?item=hdp5000

Color print out of place

Assuming you are asking about colors out of alignment, usually this is due to the card slipping and returning to the corrent position in each pass. I have corrected this problem by thouroghly cleaning all the rollers with an alcohol wipe. With the cover open and the ribbon removed, firmly hold the wipe against the two gray and one black roller while depressing the forward and reverse [power & online buttons] and allowing the rollers to run several revolutions against the wipe. I just use typical medical or first aid wipes, no need for fancy equipment wipes. The alcohol rejuvenates the rollers and keeps them sticky so to speak, so the card is moved correctly. To clean the feed roller, send a card or self test from the driver to the printer with the cover open and the ribbon removed. While you are at it, use a wipe to com[letely clean the metal interior of the printer. Cleanliness is next to godliness when it comes to these printers. ~ Jon
