What is damaged on tv when satellite dish is hit by lightning?
Lightning struck the satellite dis and blew out tv. Computer and PS3 were both plugged into the surge protector with the tv, but not hooked to directv box. Neither the PS3 or the computer were damaged. Is there a fuseat the satellite feed plug in the tv, or is the whole tv likely fried?

Bypassing a board or a part on the board would be like removing the spark plugs from a car and expecting it to run. On a serious note, if the TV has lightning damage recycle it and buy a new TV, you may be able to turn in a claim to your insurance company, once a set has storm damage even replacing a board may not fix it long term, in our service center we usually won't repair a TV the customer advises of lightning damage,it's a good way to get call backs
I am so sorry but you should have claimed that on insurance. The amount of damage to all the solid state items in that set would mean that you are going to be replacing everything.
Any time a unit is hit by lightning, it is usually a total loss. While the initial problem may be fixable, other components have been stressed and are likely to fail. Most shops won't work on these units because of the likelyhood of continual failures. Warranties won't be given or the repairs. In your specific case, the switching IC has been damaged and needs to be replaced as well as the surround processing section. This is best handled as an insurance claim for replacement.
Hi there! If you have a decoder and this was plugged in on the panel it may have damaged the input board. Alternatively have the decoder checked first or try another TV on the same decoder. Lightning can hit the dish and run down through the line into the decoder and/or into the TV. Best Wishes and Good Luck, JUS004
hi
depending on the intensity of the lightning strike.Your tv may have blown components in the power supply section of the motherboard.
unfortunately its very very difficult to acertain level of damage unless its looked at by a trained tech/engineer
