Sounds like the player is dirty. Try getting a cd player cleaner. clean it and try again.

I have a Phillips 5-in-1 Universal Remote (model MRU3500), and I have my code list booklet. There is only one (1) code given for a Nec brand Dvd player: 0142. Hope this helps you.

I don't know if this will work for you since your Philips universal remote is a different model. I tried all the codes listed for a Philips DVD player in my Philips SRU3004/27 universal remote manual. Two of them partially worked (wouldn't let me scan forwards and backwards). The last one they listed did work, code 1214. I suggest trying all the codes in the handout that comes with the remote for Philips DVD players. Make sure each number you press registers (the indicator light on the remote will blink). Philps also lists these codes on their web site. Good luck!
