My Kenmore microwave hood combination model 60609 oven does not heat and is very loud when running. What can be the problem?
Usually that is a sign that your magnetron tube has gone bad (shorted out).

It's likely a bad magnetron or maybe the high-voltage transformer. If it's within the warranty period of the magnetron (5 years or less), I would call Sears. In my professional opinion, no one should work on a microwave unless they are fully informed and aware of the deadly hazards and necessary precautions. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

dis-assemble waveguide and clean thoroughly. try again. if no-go then failed magnetron. get new unit.

Hope you got a good deal, because you can replace all the microwave components for about $200.00.
It's going to be one of the following components -
1) Fuse
2) Diode
3) Capacitor
4) Transformer
5) Magnetron
Fuse is easily checked. If it's blown, replace with an identical type and rating. If it blows again, then dig deeper.
Diode is very hard to test, and cost is cheap. Replace it.
Capacitor is very hard to test under load, and is a little more expensive. Replace.
Transformer can be tested if you know what your doing.
Magnetron is not easily tested without harm to humans. Replace with same type or approved interchangeable equal.
Let me know your findings and I can help more if needed.
SOURCE: Kenmore Microwave Hood Combination oven Model Service code (SE) ?
I have Microwave Kenmore model 401.80082700 about more than a year. After about 6 months, it stated to have some probles such as some number keys not working. Then button START become nor working some times. I can use only button of 30 secon increment to cook something. OK, the fan is working for most of the time but the levels are stuck, not adjustable. I unplug.... then plug back, it ask to input the time or date... I can't do any thing. Later some time I can cook by using 30 secon button.... It is anoying. Please how I can fix it? Thank you.

Loud hum is usually due to faulty hv diod, resonance capacitor, or the magnatrone feed thru capacitor , chk it with a ohm meter , one by one n replace it .. zaheer Islamabad
It sounds like the magnetron may have
either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high
voltage required to run it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is
discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check
the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with
either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the
capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary
of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is
best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.
Could you describe the noise?
It may be a noisy fan motor or a failing magnetron or high-voltage transformer.
