SOURCE: How to replace gas coil valves on Whirlpool LGR5636EQ3 Gas Dryer

DOES YOUR DRYER HAVE THE LINT SCREEN ON THE TOP? IF SO, REMOVE THAT AND TAKE TWO SCREWS OF(CARE NOT TO DROP IT INTO THE VENT). PULL THE TOP PANEL TOWARD YOU LITTLE BIT AND LIFT UP, THERE WILL BE TWO 5/16 SCREWS INSIDE FRONT PANEL, REMOVE AND UNPLUG THE LID SWITCH CONNECTOR, FRONT PANEL WILL COME OUT. THE GAS VALVES AND COILS ASSEMBLY WILL BE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT. UNPLUG AND TAKE THE SCREWS OFF THE BRACKET AND REPLACE COILS. CHECK FOR CONTINUITY ON COILS, IT SHOULD READ 1.3 TO 1.9 OHMS. THE ONE WITH THREE TERMINAL, CHECK OHM FROM MIDDLE TERMINAL TO OUTSIDE TERMINALS.

SOURCE: WGD5540SQ0 whirlpool dryer does not get hot.

if the ignitor is glowing then replace the gas coils they are part number 5303931775. If the ignitor is not glowing then look at the thermal fuse located either on the blower housing or if the lint screen is on the top its behind the back panel. Its skinny and white if its blown replace that and the thermal fuse and check your venting because clogged venting can cause the thermal fuse to blow. There should be a small square access piece at the bottom corner of front panel you can remove to see if the ignitor is glowing or not. Hope this helps _MJ_

You need to check the thermostats, igniter and gas valve. Here is a link to a video to show you how to do that.

Whirlpool LX1550 gas dryer. Not heating. Lights once at beginning and then shuts off. Does not liht again.

Remove the front panel to get to the gas valve. (Sorry, without a valid model number can't tell how to do it)
Remove the metal bracket holding gas valve coils.
Replace both gas valve coils, part number 279834.

Good luck,

Gas dryer works, I can hear the ignitor start but there is still no heat

Good day,
If you hear a clicking, followed by a delay of about 45 seconds and it repeats this sound, it's usually the coil kit mounted on the gas valve, not opening the gas valve.
It consists of 2 coils that are purchased as a kit.
If your dryer has the lint filter on top, then you can use the link below to get to the valve.
The link is for changing the belt, but the beginning shows how to get to the gas valve, mounted inside the cabinet. It is manufactured by whirlpool.

Kenmore gas dryer mod.110-73942. burner comes on as normal. After 5-10 minutes running Cycles off, igniter ( new) glows but no burner ign. Also replaced the sensor adjacent the igniter.

The gas valve coil is bad. When the ignitor is glowing the gas valve should open and allow gas in to be ignited. Change the gas valve.

No heat, blowing cold air

Hi, You will need to change the coils. They get weak later in cycle and will not open the valve.
Does the moise accur when the gas ignites in the first part of the dry cycle. It is possible the gas valve is starting to go bad but, it is not very common.
Here is how to change the coils:
UNPLUG the dryer. This model you need to remove the two screws under the lint screen. Now use a flat blade screw drive and insert it in the gap between the top and the front panel and pry the top up. Now locate and remove the screws on the inside of the front panel in upper corners. The front should lift off. You will see the two black coils on the gas valve. When you remove the three wire coil, make sure the sleeve inside it gets put back on the post the coils slides onto.
If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks

Where is the coil valve located?

The coils on this unit are located on the gas/burner valve Assembly. this is a all in one situation. everything is located on the gas valve assembly. you will need to remove the coils from the gas valve assembly.they are attached to the valve assembly.

Located on the back side of the unit on the lower back side. (right)

Does not heat

There is NO starter on a gas dryer burner assembly. The burner is controlled by gas valve coils and a glow bar igniter. Once the igniter reaches the appropriate current level, the gas valves open and you have ignition. The common problem is a weak igniter. You need to do a current measurement to make sure the igniter is within tolerance. If it is within specs, then I would agree with docjohn174 about replacing the coils. If its not within specs, you need to replace the igniter. Depending on the type of igniter you have, the current rating is as follows:

TWO BASIC IGNITER TYPES:

Carborundum (Cylindrical in shape) – needs to produce 2.5 to 3.0 amps for the gas safety valve to work.
Norton (Rectangular in shape) – needs to produce 3.2 to 3.7 amps for the gas safety valve to work.

NOTE: There is a UNIVERSAL FLAT BAR igniter on the market as well, that can be used as a substitute if the igniter type that came with your range is not available.

I still need an accurate model number in order to confirm WHICH type of igniter you have.
