What is causing a Phone Line Error when I go to fax?

I have a Dell Photo All-in-One Printer 964. And when I go to fax something i starts dialing and then it stops and an error comes up saying Phone Line Error what is causing that nd how do I fix it. I have checked to make sure everything is connected and the error still coes up. I got the printer from someone else but, thei was no book and she said she does not know where it is. Please help. Do you have the fax set to the proper setting? Check that and verify.

I am a publisher here in Seattle printing full color books with this machine and I have just gotten the same message- Does anyone have a solution- I have Googled and checked everything... Now, this happened to me a few months ago and I pulled out the drum and sprayed it with air, replaced it and it worked fine for about two months- now I get the error again- does this help in the problem solving?

SOURCE: Dell 964 printer is only printing grey bars

My printer has stopped printing anything but grey bars. I got a message saying that something was wrong with the alignment. could you help me?

go to page 59 of the manual ("http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/924/en/om_en/om_en.pdf" if you don't have it) look for
code 1203 in the middle of the page. good luck!

I think it might be the thicker of the two ribbons that go from the top of the printer to the bottom. Try to push it in a little more but be careful the little metal strips on it are really fragile I think thats what happened to mine

how to enable bi-directional printing.here's how:
  1. -click on start
  2. -click on printers and faxes (control panel->printers and faxes)
  3. -right-click on Dell Photo All in One Printer 964 All-In-One icon
  4. - click on properties
  5. -click on ports tab
  6. -down at the bottom there's a small box before bi-directional support
  7. -tick the box to enable it then click apply,ok
  8. -try printing again

 note: in vista , printers and faxes is printers.in win 7 ,it's devices and printers.
and properties in win 7 is printer properties

My Dell Photo 964 All-In-One won't receive faxes, but can send them just fine. All other features are alright. Spoke to Vonage (our phone service) for 2 hours troubleshooting and sending test faxes, and it...
First check a couple of obvious things:
Sometimes the presence or absence of a (DSL) filter on the line can affect fax reception.
Also check to make sure you have not enabled Fax Blocking.

Otherwise, I can only offer some information HP provides for support of VoIP fax setups, available by clicking here., and hardware setup options available here. Whether it is even remotely useful in your situation you'll have to judge.
You know there is also a Dell Forum where users
can pose questions and exchange answers. Have you checked to see if there are solutions posted there? Dell Forum 964fax error
I'm afraid I am not familiar with that particular machine or Vonage...sorry I couldn't offer anything more...

How to get the all in one fax / copier /printer to stop printing a report after each incoming and out going fax. It waistes ink and paper.
1 Click Start →Programs or All Programs→Dell Printers→Dell Photo AIO Printer
964→Dell All-In-One Center.
2 From the Dell All-In-One Center, click the Maintain/Troubleshoot tab, and then click
Display the Printer Setup Utility.
Printer Setup Utility Tabs
On this tab: You can:
Send • Enter your name and fax number.
• Select a maximum send speed and a print quality for outgoing faxes.
• Choose whether to scan the entire document before dialing the number.
• Choose whether to use error correction.
• Select when to print a fax usage report.
• Select when to print a fax activity report.

Dell AIO 962 can't get a dial tone
There are 2 phone jack ports on the back of the 962.
One for line, one for phone.
You want to plug the phone line into the port that says "line" or "Fax".
If it's plugged into the wrong one, your fax machine will not get a dial tone.

Hi, Remote Fax Error being displayed
What happens if you dial the remote fax number as a voice call on another phone? Does that number pick up? Does it give you the modem handshake noise? If not, the remote side has a problem.
Can you fax other numbers? What happens when you dial your own fax line from another phone? If your fax does not pick up and talk to you, your fax may have a problem.
