Yesterday I upgraded from an ALDI Go Cruise GPS to NAVMAN MY450LMT because I wanted lifetime free maps and more features etc. My regular setting on Go Cruise was the large digital speed readout enabling me to instantly monitor my true speed on cruise control. Try as I may I cannot activate this function on my new NAVMAN. Can you help me?

Dear Henry,

Thank you for contacting Navman Technical Support.

We do apologize for the inconvenience. Navman has decided not to release further map updates for these device due to changes in technology over the last year. We have changed the chipset and software platform and are unable to update this device. The Navman 500 series was released with an updated map version last 2005.

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us, we'll be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Ofelia

SOURCE: Navman s30 3d 2009 map update is useless

You should be able to install your old map from the DVD/CD that originally came with your Navman - you don't need a Product Key for this, even if it prompts you for one.

It appears that the commercially available 2009 map for the S-Series does *not* cover the S30 3D, just the non-3D versions, although that's not at all obvious from what's on Navman's web-site, so you have my sympathies if you bought it expecting it to work...

SOURCE: I have a GPS Navman c40/c60 and want to update

The C40 is a "special" release for Australia, so I am presuming you are requesting information on Australian maps.

At present, the current map for Australia is 2009.

This link is for the Navman models you mentioned for Map information.

Garmin Street Pilot. No upgrades available from Garmin. Can it be updated some other way?

Hi Steve,

The Street Pilot line was one of the first automotive GPS devices from Garmin, and has got to be 8+ years old. Garmin contracts with Navteq for map software. At one point, Garmin needed to have Navteq compress their new maps so that they wouldn't need to increase the amount of memory in the GPS units and still be able to include all the way points, and new features such as junction view, traffic receivers, text to speech voices, etc. These new maps have an "NT" descriptor in the title. "NT "stands for "New Technology". Non-NT maps are no longer produced.

The new Garmin GPS hardware had to included the ability to decompress maps "on the fly" for display on the screen. As a result, the NT maps will not work in the older Garmin devices.

Your best bet is to either use the Street Pilot - knowing that the routes may no longer provide accurate information, or purchase a New, Refurbished or Used GPS. Garmin offers "Lifetime Maps" as an option for nearly all NT capable GPS units either as a subscription after GPS purchase, or "in the box" when buying a Garmin GPS. You'll get FREE map updates for that GPS up to 4 times per year. This assures you of always having the most recent maps available in your GPS. Look for a model that has "LM" in it (ie: nuvi 1490LM). If it has a "T" in the model name (ie: nuvi 1490T), it has Lifetime Traffic. If it is listed as "LMT" (nuvi 1490LMT) it has both Lifetime Maps and Lifetime Traffic.

I hope helps!

How do i upgrade my navman sat nav with new roads and it used to warn me when speed cameras were present but does not now

Map updates are usually NOT free. Some manufacturers allow for a "one time update" within 30 days of purchase - to ensure the owner of the latest maps. Other than that, there are three models out there.

One is a the purchase of individual map sets for the geographical area of interest for a modest fee. nearly all manufacturers offer this type of update. In return, a disk containing a program to update the maps in the GPS is run on your computer while the GPS is connected via USB cable or serial cable. You might even end up maps preloaded on a removable memory card. Simply inserting the card into the slot on some GPS units will allow the the GPS to use the new maps on the card instead of those installed on the internal memory of the GPS (if the memory card is removed, the GPS uses the old internal maps).

The second model is a map subscription service (Garmin and a few others) that allows for the download of new mapsets as they become available (2 or more times per year) to your computer. This is done on older models (those sold before lifetime maps were offered) or if it is determined that buying updates one at a time will be too costly, after purchasing the GPS. Running the download with the GPS connected to the computer will update the internal maps of the GPS - just like the disk method. The subscription service costs more than buying a single update disk, but is often less than the cost of 2 update purchases. The subscription lasts a predetermined amount of time, or in many cases, "for the life of the GPS".

The last is similar to the subscription method above, only that you purchase the GPS with lifetime map subscription built in to the cost of the GPS. Included in the GPS package are instructions on how to go about starting the subscription and installing the maps - the same instructions are included with the purchase of a subscription after purchasing the GPS.

One place that sells maps for the Navman brand GPS can be found at http://www.activegps.co.uk/navman-maps.htm You may also find them available for sale in retail outlets that sell the Navman GPS devices, too.

Speed or "Safety" cameras and Red Light Camera locations are often offered as a subscription, due to the not necessarily permanent placement of these devices. Some manufacturers offer this, while others do not. Third party providers have stepped up to fill the void created by those that do not offer this information. I found these sites that have this data available:

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras-navman.php
http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-camera-database.htm

There may be others that cost less or are even free. Keep in mind that maintaining this database can be difficult, so the free databases are more likely to have erroneous information in them when compared to those databases that charge for access.

I hope this was a good starting pint for you and helped. Please rate my reply - thanks!

Wanting to buy gps was thinking of the 1350 ? series...do they have free amp upgrades for NZ and Australia can you have loaded multiple countires at once...

The basic 1350 model doesn't have free map updates but the 1350LMT model does. LMT stands for lifetime map and traffic updates but of course you're pay extra for the LMT models. Note lifetime means the lifetime of the satnav not your life. It comes with maps of Australia and NZ when bought in one of these countries. If you want more than these maps you'll need to store them on a memory card. You'll have to download them to your computer and then install them to a memory card. You'll find details of how to do this at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps which tells you how to update your maps including how to set up a map on a memory card. I hope this answers your question.

Owners manuel for Navman MY50T

Hi Raymond,

You can download a free copy of your owner's manual on this page:
gps-devices/user-guides/">http://www.navman.com.au/car-gps-devices/user-guides/

If you need to update your maps, check this site for downloading instructions and downloadable ISO files for installing the more current maps. They may or may not be free, depending on your previous map purchases. They also sell the upgrade software, but its a little pricey. They are located in Australia.

I hope this gives you the info you need. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Thanks.

Looking for Map upgrades for Garmin Nuvi GPS

I've looked for free map upgrades for my Garmin and could not find anything. I did find a lifetime map upgrade deal for around $75. It allows you unlimited upgrades for as long as you own the GPS. Go to the garmin site and search NUMaps.
Not finding what you are looking for?
