You need a rebuild kit for the valve and possible a sand change. Sand should be changed ever 3 - 5 years or so depending on overall pool conditions.

The gasket inside the valve is out of place and therefore allowing water to leak out the waste port. Use a gokit to replace all the gasket/orings and you should stop the leak.

If the flow is still bad, inspect the sand and change it if necessary.

Hayward vari flo valve on filter also comeing out waste at same time

Yes, it is the "spider" gasket inside the valve that has gone bad. It needs to be changed out. They are not expensive. Go to YouTube and enter "change spider gasket" there are several videos. Good luck with it!

I have a 20,000 gal in ground pool w/ Hayward 36 sq ft de upright filter, Hayward Vari-Flo valve. Actual suction at the skimmer has gotten very weak, (filters and traps clean) It does better in...

You say that you can see a large flow through the pump cover but that water must be coming from the pool somehow. It must be coming through the main drain. If you turn the main drain off then the flow from the skimmer should increase considerably. If it doesn't the issue could be caused by a nearly plugged line between the skimmer basket and the pump. I have had similar symptoms and I started by using a drain jet device on a hose to force water backwards from the pump to the skimmer with the main drain valve turned off. I couldn't clear the plug so I had to dig the line up and found a bad area of the piping where it made a reduced pipe size 90 degree turn. Sycamore bark, leaves and twigs were stuck at that pinch point.

I hope this helps.

Hayward vari-flo sp0710xr50 install manual for piping

I don't have a manual but basically the intake of the filter connects to the area around the grids. The inside of all the grids connect through a manifold and pipes to the output port of the filter. The pump output should be piped to the return piping of the pool. If you have a heater it should be connected between the output of the filter to the return piping of the pool. If you have a chlorinator the output of the heater it should be connected through a metal-free check valve, into the chlorinator and then to the return piping of the pool. I hope this helps.

Water and de backflo into motor from filter

Try checking the users manual. I don't have an exact answer for you, unfortunately, but the users manual for these pool filters is comprehensive and has diagrams. Hopefully, you can find your answer there.

Is your pool green? This will cause the filter to plug up. When you say stops working do you mean no water flo, passing dirt or are we talking about the pump not moving water? Can you clarify this problem some?spellcheck.gif

Check to make sure the plumbing is in the correct inlet/outlet on the valve head. Sounds like it's plumbed backwards. Inlet is from the pump, out to pool...
