When the computer is turned off, the AC adapter charges a completely discharged battery to 80 percent in about 1 hour and to 100 percent in approximately 2 hours. Charge time is longer with the computer turned on. You can leave the battery in the computer for as long as you like. The battery's internal circuitry prevents the battery from overcharging. So About 2 to 3 hrs

When you connect the computer to an electrical outlet or install a battery while the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the computer checks the battery charge and temperature. If necessary, the AC adapter then charges the battery and maintains the battery charge.
If the battery is hot from being used in your computer or being in a hot environment, the battery may not charge when you connect the computer to an electrical outlet.

Have dell d610 battery light flashes 4 times red then one green, can't unplug

I would take note of the message you are getting and buy a new battery. I believe the red flashing lights mean that one or more of the cells in the battery are dying, and it's best not to turn off alarm lights like these. Did the battery hold charge for a longer period than one hour before you started to see the flashing light warning?

My battery won't re charge when connected to A/C

You must check to see if the Ac adapter is actually putting out voltage, check where it goes into the plug, the wire sometimes fractures here, and wiggling it makes it go, on & off.. OR It may be the connection on the internal socket, they fracture the solder on the mother board itself. It takes a time to recharge at least overnight 8 hours left totally alone and no use..

My dell laptop suddenly stopped working without the power cord. power cord needed to be repaired, it had a gash exposing wires. fixed it with electrical tape but it is no longer portable, did i mess the...

It sounds more like the large portability battery has been 'messed' i recommend getting a new power cord. Whist you may have repaired the cabling and it may have appeared to work, the escape circuit for charge may have been broken but it is not required for the laptop to work, but is important when recharging the battery. I recommend getting a new adapter and then if that doesn't work a new large battery also.

Module Bay

The D610 second battery is installed in the slot occupied by the CD Rom.
This is an additional omponent that can be purchased to extend the battery life for the laptop.

Unless you have this battery module installed the error is completely normal.

Battery charging

if it is the original battery, then the answer is buy a new battery. The average life of a portable battery is 300 to 500 discharge/recharge cycles. (1 to 2 years normally) If it is the original battery, then it is going on 5 years old and due for replacement

My Dell Latitude D610 Battery Stopped Working

The battery light flashing RED/AMber is an indication of a failed battery.

Portable batteries have a life expectancy of 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles. (roughly 18 months under normal use) After that, the charge life starts to drop off and eventually it will not hold a charge. Because of this, the battery is considered a consumable item and is only warranted for one year from the manufacturer.

Since all the systems listed in the post are D610's (4 to 5 years old) it is not surprising that the batteries are failing.

Dropped Puck, if you replace the battery and a new battery doesn't charge/run the system, then the charging circuit on the MB is failed.

Power for battery on DELL laptop Latitude D610 as posted FixYa

In the BIOS, does it show the battery and it's current state? As weird as it sounds, I've fixed an issue like this on a D600 by updating the BIOS to the most current level. Weird, but true.
