Intermatic Malibu 300W Power Pack Transformer ML300RTW Logo

I have a Malibu ml200rt power pack that is 3 years old and has worked fine. It is connected to 10 landscape lights each with a 12 volt 20 watt bulb. The lights stopped turning on. The timer is working and going around but the lights will not go on. I have replaced 7 of the 10 light bulbs. Is there a way to fix this without replacing it? It's only 3 years old.

The EJ500C is designed only for standard incandescent lights, not chandelier bulbs, CFLs, etc. Replace it with the ST01C, and you'll be fine. Intermatic may even exchange it for you if you if you complain to them.

SOURCE: lights won't go on

Sounds like the timer may not be getting power.

Turn the circuit breaker that supplies the circuit OFF then ON, as sometimes it's hard to tell if a breaker has tripped by looking at it.

It's possible that the circuit is controlled by a switch that someone may have inadvertently turned OFF.

Also, it's very likely that the circuit is fed from a GFCI receptacle (the kind with the test and reset buttons that are usually found in kitchens and bathrooms) that may have tripped. Those receptacles can sometimes be found in very obscure places. Check outside receptacles too.

If anyone has been digging in the yard or flower beds it's possible that the cable may have been damaged.

The problem will more than likely be your transformer. To test you can go get a cheap voltage tester from home or hardware store it to the lowest alternating current voltage setting and put the leads across the output of the transformer. Anything less than 12V and your transformer is shot. Its not expensive for a new one either if you just want to swap it out rather than messing with a tester.

I'm thinking that a better brand is in order. Mine shorted out and started a fire. Luckily we had just returned from vacation and put it out with a hose.

SOURCE: I have a ML300RTW Malibu

You can buy cheap plug-in timer, set power pack to override and then plug power pack into cheap timer.
Otherwise there are no repair parts for power packs other than on-off trippers.
Power packs come with 5 year limited warranty, so you are within warranty period. Good job saving the date of purchase, you outshine with that detail.

Will my new LED malibu lights work with with my ML200RT transformer? They use considerably less wattage than my old bulb type lamps.

Malibu puts out 12 Volt AC without specifying type of bulb
If new bulbs work on 12 Volt AC, then they should work
http://waterheatertimer.org/Malibu-power-pack-stopped-working.html#install

Wattage on bulbs should match power pack wattage, or damage can occur to power pack.
Buy new power pack, call Intermatic, or Try it out and see if it works

My ML200RT Malibu Transformer is working bu the timer is not. I hear it ticking but the timer doesn't rotate. I can manually rotate the timer to turn the lights on and off. If I buy a cheap timer for...

If the timer does not rotate, then the clock motor gears have been stripped, or the motor has gotten weak.
With most expensive timers, you can buy and replace the clock motor.
But not with the Malibu power pack.

I tried spraying WD-40 on my timer dial.
And broke the power pack apart looking for ways to disassemble it.
Power packs are one-piece units.
New power packs have electronic clock, so test your circuit with circuit analyzer before assuming new electronic gizmo will work better.

His timer stopped working.
He bought a cheap plug-in timer and then connected power pack to that timer.

Harry also said that his power pack has 5 year warranty.
He was 'negotiating' with malibulights.com over the warranty.
I hope he writes back and says how it went.

Here are some tips for next power pack that might save money:
The reason I add these tips now, before your power pack needs replacement is some fella wrote-in.
He bought 500 Watt power pack to replace 300 Watt > thinking bigger was better.
Power pack burned out. Here's why:
1) Match wattage of bulbs with wattage of power pack
-15 each X 20 watt bulbs = 300 watts, so install 300Watt power pack
2) Installing a 500W power pack on 300W of bulbs will burn out bulbs and power pack.
3) Replace bulbs as soon as they burn out or other bulbs will burn out and power pack will burn out.
4) When working on bulbs, unplug power pack or it may burn out.

My 600 watt 12 volt transformer timer for out door lighting does not keep time properly. HOw do I get and install a new timer?

1) Amazon sells 600Watt power pack:
http://www.amazon.com/Malibu-8100-9600-01-Voltage-Power-Transformer/sim/B002ZRPM4A/2

2) I bought new 300Watt Malibu power pack at Home Depot about 2 months ago.
Near the lighting section.
My new power pack has electronic time clock, so no more 'slow clock.'
I think Home Depot had 600Watt.
Lowes carries different brand.

3) Manuals for power packs at Malibu lights.com
http://www.malibulights.com/customer_service/owners_manuals.aspx

4) Tips for buying and taking care of power pack:
-Match up wattage of bulbs with wattage of power pack
-15 each X 20 watt bulbs = 300 watts, so install 300Watt power pack
-Installing a 500W power pack on 300W of bulbs will burn out bulbs and power pack.
-Replace bulbs as soon as they burn out or other bulbs will burn out and power pack will burn out.
-When working on bulbs, unplug power pack or it may burn out.
http://www.malibulights.com/guides_support/low_voltage_planning_guide/select_your_power_pack

5) How to install power pack.
Before unplugging old power pack, check which bulbs are not working.
Replace bulbs using phillips screwdriver.
Unplug power pack.
Notice how wires are connected to power pack, write down terminal connections.
Some power packs have three terminals ... extra terminal is for additional photoelectric eye.
Use pliers or screwdriver to disconnect wires.
New power pack has has same terminals.
Plug in power pack.
Read instruction manual before connecting wires.
Save instruction manual because a few years that manual won't be around as products change.

My Malibu 200 Watt Power Pack/Transformer & Timer - ML200RT powers up but won't turn on lights. Is there a fuse that can be replaced in the unit?

There is no fuse and no repair parts

I've been all over the Malibulights.com website looking for anything that might help the large number of people with Malibu questions. The website has very little information and no parts and the site offers no help except the following:

1) Malibu gets the customer money, and other people troubleshoot for their customers
2) When buying a power pack, the total bulb wattage on the line has to match the power pack wattage
10 - 20 watt bulbs = 200 Watt power pack
15 -20 watt bulbs = 300 Watt power pack
http://www.malibulights.com/guides_support/low_voltage_planning_guide/select_your_power_pack.aspx
If your power pack is oversized, it will burn out the bulbs and burn out the power pack

3) A power pack makes a humming noise when it has power >>> check your power source if power pack won't work >>> no other troubleshooting is offered
4) Replace burned out bulbs ASAP or the power pack burns out the other bulbs
5) Unplug power pack when working on bulbs [otherwise, the power pack burns out which is why people write fixya asking why their power pack won't work after replacing all their bulbs]
6) Nowhere on the Malibu site does it offer-or-explain burned out power packs or power packs that don't work, but they show plenty of new products for you to buy.

Apparently the motor is working but the timer is not running

These dang power packs don't have replacement parts. You can see if the manual override turns lights on and off. The power pack makes a humming noise. If the timer is not rotating, then try setting the current time.

Malibu manuals are located on this page
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 http://www.malibulights.com/customer_service/owners_manuals.aspx

If you buy another one, be sure to match up total wattage of bulbs to the power pack wattage.
For example 10 - 20 watt bulbs = 200 Watts >> you should buy 200 Watt power pack
15 - 20 watt bulbs = 300 Watt power pack
Oversized power pack will burn out the bulbs
Also if you let bulbs burn out, it will shorten life of power pack
Unplug the power pack when working on the bulbs

Unit was working fine today. I was repairing some connections in the landscape lighting cables and checking each connection after completing it. At one point, I was testing the lighting and got nothing. ...

The power pack should make a humming sound when ON

1) Maybe power to the plug is off
Plug hair dryer into plug and see if it works
Check your GFCI resets in bathroom and kitchen
Check breaker in box

2) Maybe time of day needs to be set
Unplug power pack > plug back in > set on-off trippers
Rotate dial counterclockwise to present time
Then rotate dial two complete revolutions and return to present time

Malibu ML200RT low voltage power pack is not working

First check to make sure that you do not have more watts pulling than is recommended. If this is ok then pull both the red and black plastic pin from the timer and replace them then try. If neither of these solutions work you may have a problem at power source.
