My stereo will not read CD's most of the time. It will say no CD even It seems like the buttons are stuck or something because it wont open to get the CD's out and you have to unplug it a lot just to get it to shut off. It was bought from Target back in December so it is less then a year old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have an RCA 5 Disc Changer, purchased at Target. The first one had a prolific issue of skipping on discs. It would play part of song on the first disc then suddenly change to the next disc. However, it did not ALWAYS do this, just sometimes, seemingly at random. Then one day, it would suddenly work just fine on all 5 discs. Eventually it simply would not play an entire song at all, so I took it back (within the time of the warranty). They had 1 of the same left on the back shelves so was able to get that one. This one started doing the exact same thing within the month. Now, it will not READ discs. It will simply read, 'Read"..and then when it comes up showing the disc number it has all zeros. I tried skipping to the next disc and then the next, and suddenly it read. That was fine for two days, then it would not even do that. I tried using compressed air inside all of the open disc drawer, and on all the discs but to no avail. Just now I tried tilting the entire unit Back at about a 30 degree angle and while in that position hit the 'disc change' button on the remote and suddenly it read. How long will this work? Have no idea. Very irritating - and it's hard to find this kind of player anymore, apart from a Component System which is a whole new playing field. Amazingly , I had bought my first changer, a 6 CD changer, cheap one at wal mart long ago and it lasted me about 10 years and never had a problem. It was a no-name brand too, I would expect better from RCA but alas, tis not the case.

You might try running a cleaning CD in it (which cleans the lazer lens). These are available from Wal Mart and many other sources. If a cleaning doesn't get it going, then you may have a lazer that is weakening and might need to be replaced (sorry!). Hope just a good lens cleaning will do the trick.

Sounds like a dirty lens or laser failure.
Seek professional help.
The lasers are not as expensive as they used to be, get an estimate.

Mine was doing the same thing so I unplugged it and took the left side panel off to see what was wrong with it. I did this by removing the 2 screws on the left and the 3 on the back left side also. There was a cd stuck in it. It took some fenangling but I got it out and it works fine now. I know, I know. We as lay people are not supposed to do these things but it was out of warranty and would have cost me as much to have it repaired as to buy a new one. Good luck!

Try this... unplug the unit and turn it upside down. Have a small screwdriver ready. No plug the unit in and try to turn the wheel in the large slot clockwize. When you see the spring clip try to grab the white plastic stop and move it clockwize. This should eventually open the door. It did for me.
