You could have a faulty inverter, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Monitor fades to white.

Check the capacitors on the power supply board. The tops should be flat, no bulging or puffing up at all. The fading to white usually indicates a failure of one or more capacitors on the board. Here is a link to a repair kit if you find blown capacitors on the board.

Monitor screen goes white at start up

That could be the monitor or the video/graphics card in the computer. Try another monitor as a test to narrow the problem. If it's a laptop, therer's usually a VGA port where another monitor can be installed. You might need to press a Fn key combination to turn on the second monitor in that case.

My monitor comes on for about three seconds when I turn the computer or the monitor off/on and then it fades to black. It looks like the computer is booting up fine when I can briefly see the screen but...

Connect the monitor to the "video-output" port on your laptop, to see if the monitor is working correctly.
You make have to tell the laptop to send the video-output to "both" the internal LCD screen and the external monitor.

If it works, then your monitor is OK.
Restart your computer, and keep tapping the F8 key, until you get a menu of startup items. Choose the 'VGA' startup option, to select the "minimal" device-drivers for your video-card. With the "minimal" drivers, your monitor should still be working.

Dell monitor is flickering

If you have another computer, try hooking to it and see if it flickers on it too.
If you hit Ctl-Alt-Delete and choose Task Manager, does the box flicker there?.
Adjust the monitor ratio in the Display Settings/Display/ Display Adapter Properties, Monitor Tab, see drop down (increase screen refresh ratio to higher number).

245BW monitor not working (stranges colors ad aeternam...)

I had the same problems as almost all of these people and the answer seems to be that I uninstall the current Nvidia Drivers and use a previous set. The 169.28 were a real problem for me. Just when I thought it was working I would get the strange wash out and I could not turn it off except with the back power switch, aslo using the DVI turns off all the on screen controls.

Good Luck
