I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Known to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio connections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Is a Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the locations of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check all Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. Look to see if the Caps are deformed and or split at the top. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.
SOURCE: why wont my tv turn on? a red light just flashes
Right now, your TV is in " Protection Mode". A damaged part has occurred inside on one of the power supply boards. The red flashing light is a trouble code for a tech to trace the trouble circuit path.
If you have electronic experience with circuit boards, you can find a Service Manual for the TV on the internet for less than $20. This Service manual will have the schematics, red light codes, circuit diagram, and part number list you need to fix the board.
SOURCE: TV won't turn on
my philips plasma tv just shut of on me one night, i tried everthing 2 get it working. A repairman said to fix it approx $450.00. I paid over $2500.00 3 YEARS ago didnt know if it was worth paying out that money and then it breaking down again. For three months i kept the tv untill i decided what 2 do, couldnt bring myself to trash it. So this week i took of the back panel there was so much dust inside carefully removed all the dust, Still it wouldnt work so then i decided to go to where the powercord is to see if anything burned out, it hadnt. I followed where the cord went to and noticed that there was a fuse beside where it when on the board so i removed it when to lowes and bought replacement fuse for $1.75 put it in and bingo it started back up after about 4 months of trying.I hope it works for you. you have nothing to loose you will have to either trash it or let some repair man rip you off . Good luck
