I would read the part number on the STR and using the gargler (google) get the data on it.
The service manual is the chassis number/type not the model number.

Most Sony's usually always have bad regulator ics. Depending on your model, could be a mcz3001 or str ic or mxoa ic. Check for 160v across the main capacitor for 160v to see if your power supply is working. Do not use chassis ground. Use the ground on the cap.

Check the input fuse first. If it is blown, there will be some short inside the power regulator circuit. Usually Sony sets uses STR regulated power supply. You can see this STR, and Ic, screwed onto a heatsink. Replace it with a same type and number. Before replacing the STR, check the diodes used in that section for damage, mainlu zener diodes. They might get shorted along the blowing of the STR. Check that section throughly before resoldering the new STR.

This set is pretty common for the regulator IC to go bad. Its inside on the power supply Printed circuit boad assy. It will start with STR#### and have 4 digits after the STR####, depending on the model of the set. Good Luck
Your going to need a schematic diagram and some troubleshooting skills here or a quilifyed repair person. This set has several power supply problems as well as sweep dirived power problems. The biggest problem is the STR (I dont remember the other #'s)(ie- STR#####) regulator IC It is alway the first thing that goes bad in these chassis. Now do not get a general replacement as it will blow out as soon as you turn on the set. I've been through this and a half a dozen regulators till I relized that the replacement ics do not have one last digit on the ic that the original did have!! and that one last digit made the ic completely differant. Another common problem here would be The Two filter capacitors off the sweep derived 15 or 18 volt lines Good luck to ya.
