I'm still researching this, but the consensus seems to be that the first step for troubleshooting (and regularly maintaining) all burr grinders is to make sure there are no compacted/backed-up coffee grounds impeding the operation of the grinder. (1) Unplug your machine. (2) Start by cleaning out the rectangular opening leading to the container that holds the grounds. (3) Empty and then remove the conical hopper that holds the beans. It lifts up and off. (Discovered that trick on this site from someone else's answer!) Once the conical hopper is removed, clean out the area underneath the conical hopper.

Once you have cleaned out all the build-up, re-assemble the pieces of the grinder, plug it back in, and see if it works. For some people, that's all it takes. Not for me, though: I'm working on finding instructions for taking this beast apart and replacing the burrs. If the motor is shot, I'm giving up.

And, of course, now that you know how to clean the machine, do it regularly to avoid future build-up of grounds.
