Acer Aspire E1 510P laptop - only just received, put in nick name and made up a password and tried to set up at home which has a different p.c. user name etc. It won't connect to the net and keeps saying incorrect password. Rang Acer and they said go back to factory setting but I'm clueless and do not know how to go back?

Before going back to the factory default settings let's determine if you cannot log in to your laptop or if you cannot connect to your already established network at home. If you problem is that you can no longer log in to your laptop then goong back to the facxtory default setup is your simplest option. For this particular laptop is to reboot the computer and when the Acer logo appears press ALT-F10 (Both keys at the same time.) This should bring up the recovery menu where you can select the restore option and follow the prompts to restore your computer to it's default state. If you can log in to your laptop you do not need to do any of that. You simply need to determine why you cannot connect to your home network. If you are using a wireless network you have to see if your network is protected and what method of protection you are using and set your computers wireless access card to use the same protection protocol and password/key to connect to the network. Again I must stress that to get the best help for any computer problems the more details you give in your question the better your answers will be. When you post a question ask yourself the following questions and post the answers to those questions with your real question.

  1. What version of software/hardware am I using?
  2. What components are involved in my problem?
  3. Did I mention what OS and version I am using?
That is a good place to start when asking questions anywhere on the internet.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5735 LCD changes bight-dim-bright, etc.

You could have a faulty inverter, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

SOURCE: acer aspire 6920 back to factory settings

Acer sent me these instructions.

The other way before Vista starts up is to tap ALT + F10 (at the same time repeatedly) when the computer is first switched on.. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts

Once you have tapped both the ALT and F10 repeatedly, you may see a screen showing:

“Edit Boot options for Microsoft Windows Vista”

If you see this, unfortunately, you have missed the window of opportunity, and you need to restart, and try again.

If you see this:
“Edit Boot options for Windows Setup” OR “Edit Boot options for Acer eRecovery”

Then it indicates that you have tapped the ALT + F10 correctly, and all you now need to do is press “Enter” and the Recovery program should load on your screen after a short pause..

In some cases, you may need to remove the battery (for notebooks only) and run the machine directly from the mains.

The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs.

This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine.
If possible we strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process.

SOURCE: restore a acer aspire 4330 back to factory settings

Follow these instructions carefully:

To start the recovery process:
1. Restart the system.
2. While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to
enter the recovery process.
3. Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.

I copied the above from an Acer manual, and it works on my own system, which is not the same model as yours. But you must understand that this will basically restore your computer to the condition in which it was when you bought it, unpacked it from the box, and followed the instructions to set up a new computer.

This will give you your system back as if it were brandy new, but in most cases, anything you created, like DOCs, or XLS files, again … ANYthing you created since buying this computer, will also probably not be there any more.

You will have a pristine, clean as new, computer system.

Be careful, be absolutely sure this is what you want to do, and go ahead and do it.

Backdoor password for acer aspire 3502WLCi

If there has not been an administrator password placed on the computer, you can put administrator in the user name box, then hit enter. XP has an administrator account, but no password set. A BIG hole anyone can use. I recommend that you password the admin account to prevent hacking.
If you are talking about a specific password for the motherboard, you will have to contact that manufacturer, or Acer.

I cant get out of click user name screen in win xp home.there is no user icons. what do i do. restarting comp does not work? its a acer aspire 5000

The reason there is no user icons is the system either only has one user name associated with it or Fast User Switching is turned off. You can try to boot into safe mode and login as Administrator, but that may or may not be password protected as well. Chances are you will have to boot into repair mode and login as admin and try to change the username and password on the system to gain access.
