My computer is very very slow.

Block the Startups and Services

When your computer is started up, there might be a number of programs and services running in the background. Some of them would be update checkers, error reporters and the rest are necessary tools like your antivirus etc.

The idea is to disable running the start-ups and service that you no longer need.

  1. Click Start ' Run.
  2. Type MsConfig and press ENTER.
  3. Disable the start-ups and services from the Startup and Services tabs respectively.
  4. Click OK button and restart the machine.

Defragment the Disks

My computer is slow to start up if the disks are too fragmented. Fragmentation refers to dividing a file into several parts which cause slow down in retrieving their contents.

The problem can be solved by defragmenting such fragmented disks using the Disk Defragmenter.

  1. Click Start ' All Programs ' Accessories ' System Tools ' Disk Defragmenter.
  2. Select all the drives.
  3. Click Defragment disks button.

Defragment your Registry

Registry is the database in your operating system containing significant configurations and information. Registry fragmentation too cause my computer is slow to start up issue.

Defragmenting the registry is too simple. You have to download a third party Registry Defragmenter software and install it o your system.

Set Up the System for Best Performance

Setting Windows for maximum performance rather than best appearance could fix the problem. Whenever my computer is slow to start up I perform the same task. The steps are provided below:

  1. Right click My Computer.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Click Advanced System Settings link at the left hand side of the window.
  4. Click Advanced tab.
  5. In Performance frame, click Settings button.
  6. Select the option Adjust for best performance and click OK ' OK.

Disinfect the System

Sometimes computer is infected by a virus and I feel that my computer is slow to start up.. Change the existing antivirus software and download a good one. Update its virus definitions and conduct a full scan through it. Remove all the infected files that found.

Which is the latest anti virus software?

Any decent anti-virus program will be continually updated to keep up with virus developments. Which one you go for is mostly a matter of preference. If you're looking for free software, I highly recommend AVG free, which is, in my experience, one of the best freeware anti-virus suites.

If you're looking to buy some software, then Bit Defender and Kaspersky are two of the highest rated antivirus suites of 2011. This site here has some good comparisons and a little buyers' guide to help you choose the best software for your needs.

I hope this helps!

I have a Mac 450Mhz Power PC G4 with OS X 10.4.11. and 1.75 GB SDRAM. It runs incredibly slow. We have downloaded many songs from Limewire. I just heard that MACs need antivirus and anti spyware...

Well, there are a variety of reasons that can consequently drag down the performance of your Mac. Meanwhile, there are certain ways through which you can considerably speed up your Mac machine. For example, you can reset the browser settings to regularly clear useless caches and history, get rid of all unwanted widgets from the dashboard through the Dashboard control panel, remove unnecessary applications, find out & delete those duplicated files, or if your Mac is running out of memory, try upgrading the system RAM to boost its performance etc. However, if you prefer a more efficient way to speed up your Mac, try the following all-in-one Mac speedup tool as it can help resolve all issues in just a few clicks.

I need a good internet security program that ISN'T Norton

Wow, this is a big answer. There are many free virus protection programs but I've compiled a list of free, great quality, and awesome protection anti-virus programs for your solution.

Free Anti-Virus:
  • Windows Defender
  • Ad-Aware
  • PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition
  • AVG Anti-Virus Free
  • Avira AntiVir Personal - Free AntiVirus

In addition to the collection of anti-virus programs I would recommend some cleaning and analyst programs to speed up your computer.

Cleaning & Analyst Utilities:
  • CCleaner
  • Defraggler
  • Recuva
  • Speccy
I'm sure you'll be happy with these programs. Have fun and always use protection!

Thanks,

After use internet my pc,s speed very slow.

Your computer may be infected with a virus. Are you running any anti virus software?

Do a simple scan of your machine using anti virus software - If you have none installed, download and install this.

I have included AVG as its free.
http://www.avg.com/

Log off from the internet and run the scans - if you haven't run one before this may take several hours.

The clean up should remove any old entries and also detect any virus which may be slowing down your machine.

Best antivirus

Hi! The best antivirus that won't slow down your computer is NOD32 2.7. You can download it in torrents sites. Also free up your startup memory using HIJACKTHIS I'm sure this make your computer clean from viruses. GOOD LUCK

Slow pc

Using different products for anti-virus, firewall and anti-adware is fine in itself. I am not sure if you mean that the downloading is slow (which can be if you download all these programs at the same time), or if you PC is slow in general.

Personally I used a lot of speed tweaking tips from www.PCauthorities.com Some is advanced, but a lot is easy to understand.

About my xp

Earlier if your pc was running ok. as expected speed, and now running with slow speed, u have to check of virus and spyware.Have u install one legal antivirus software on your pc??if not the go for one legal antivirus.Load it,scan for virus.Select for one antivirus which will give u support for both virus and spyware.Don,t try to install free antivirus and antispware software.

U may need to defrag your hard drive also.

Desable unnecessary files from startup by using msconfig command.
