This motherboard supports DDR 333/400 MHz. It have total 2 DDR DIMM memory slots and it supports up to 2GB memory. Just ask for DDR1 memory at your favorite store

Video card upgrade

NO ADDON Video Card Slot On Board--ADD MAX DDR MEMORY TO SYSTEM--INCREASE MEMORY SHARE. There are other slots on board, but video card in them will not be good as onboard. Your system is getting pretty old for any upgrades. Was not really worth upgrade when new.

Ugrading to a newer system with higher performance specifications

You can upgrade you memory to 2 x 512MB DDR PC2700 333MHz, and install pretty much any size 2.5" IDE hard drive you wish. Installing Vista will make this machine very very slow. Windows 7 would be better as it uses less resources. Ideally XP Pro would be better suited based on this boards specifications.

I am looking to upgrade memory on an MSI N1996 Mother Board which has 2x 168 pin slots and 2x 184 pin slots. I wish to know if I can go to 2GB and which memory is best to use, i.e. ECC,...

If your motherboard supports ECC, and you can afford the much-higher cost of ECC RAM, then buying/using ECC is "best".

Note that "buffered" memory is much slower than "unbuffered" memory.

I want to upgrade my ram for my pc...atmost to how much i can upgrade and in each slot individually how much capacity of ram it supports ...my motherboard is 915glvg

i would like to inform you that *********** board supports upto 4 gb ram and 2 gb in 2 slots will be the best combination but depends on the OS you are using if its 32 bit XP or Vista it wont accept more than 3 gb so if you wish to use your system in full throttle mode upgrade you r OS to 64 bit XP or Vista and enjoy all 4gb standards that you actually wish to but even 3 gb is like playing with wild fire that will be really too fast processing speed and thrilling performance that you expect.

thanks and regards

Can I use DDR2 800 MHz RAM on GA-K8NS-Ultra-939-Socket-939 MBoard

I don't think that that motherboard will accomodate the DDR800 you probably need a DDR333 or DDR400.
Calling the manufacturer support will render better information because they made the board. The memory you refer to may not fit the slot for this particular motherboard.

Upgrade of ram

Your board Support 168-pin SDRAM DIMM and 184-pin DDR DIMM (Can't Use DIMM & DDR SDRAM memory Together).
I would run the 184-pin DDR. Supports PC1600/PC2100 DDR DRAM up to 2BG Max. Since you have four memory slots 2x512mb of DDR PC2100 = 1GB would be plenty. You will notice programs load faster & games run smoother. Personally, 2Gb. may help but you will not see the difference. To see a difference it is not all about memory. Mb bus speed, CPU, chipset & speed of video memory all play a part with regards to Pc overall speed. You can download your manual here.: http://www.jetway.com.tw/oldweb/evisn/download/manual/index1.htm
You can download the specs of your board here.:

And below is a link for some good ram.:

This should all help you decide, best wishes!

Processor upgrade

Not a realistic proposition. So many other parts of the Mother board are 'tuned' the a specific processor Big Name manufacturer- like Sony/Dell etc., tend to design custom MoBos and processors as an integrated unit so the -upgrades are limited to memory or PCI cards etc.
