Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
My disc quit working and i replaced and it still will not work
Your ps3 laser is definitely on the frits or completely fried. it tends to happen to ps3 more frequent in dusty or smokey homes or rooms. not much you can do it cost overe $100 to fix when you can buy brand new one for $100 more. the problem is fixable but my opinion a new one is a better option. you can still use the burnt laser ps3 to watch netflix or other forms of files not dvd or cd

I made this same mistake myself. if you are talking about a pre 160GB machine. in those PS3s the main control board inside the bluray drive is hardware locked to the main motherboard of the playstation. you can still change the drive, but only if you take the control circuit board from your old bluray drive and swap it into your new bluray drive. I know this seems to defeat the purpose of the new drive but in my experience the board is probably not the cause of the initial change. believe it or not, this is a relatively simple operation if you have enough wits to already have swapped the drive. just as always note positions of things and proceed gently and you will be fine.

Did you take it to a technician to get the LENS or the Bluray Unit replaced? Cause if the Ps3 wont read ANY disc then your bluray unit is dead. You need to replace either the lens or the drive.

I'm also having this problem as well, it has to do with the OS and it is corrupted. It seems like the "Game mode" has been corrupted preventing us from playing games on the hard drive or reading games.

I had a similar problem. My PS3 was not starting the game discs when I
inserted those to the PS3. Also those game discs were not visible in the
I did not have problems with the normal movie DVDs or Movie Blu Rays. Those were working fine.
Actually I was able to start the game disc with a special trick, which required start some application, such as a downloaded game, let it start, and then hit the PS home button. The game disc title then shows up under the game menu and from that point remains viewable until the disc is ejected or the console is turned off.
In case you have the similar problem, I was able to fix this problem by executing the following steps;
The PS3 has a special Recovery Menu, which you can access in the following way;:
1. Turn off Playstation 3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION 3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION 3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION 3 System
Select option "Rebuild Database".
After the PS3 has executed this DB rebuilding operation, the disc games will be visible again under the game menu and are also starting automatically when inserted to the PS3.

This is normally because the laser on the drive is slightly off. The good thing is that you can fix this yourself it is quite simple.
Or of course you can send it in to be fixed it is up to you.
If you send it in you will have to pay out about $130 to get it fixed.
