The cable has become damaged and needs to be replaced
I have replaced cords on several vacs. Unplug, take all screws out to gain access. Usually it's just two wires to disconnect and two to affix in their place. As an easy way to keep track of what screw goes where ,I used colored tape. I place lil pieces of colored tape near the hole and stick the screws to a piece of tape with corresponding color. I bought an old vac at a rummage for 2.00 and salvaged the cord off that vac. But first I made sure the cord on that unit was free of frays n cracks and had good rubber coating. Less than 1/2hr later I was using the vac with the cord I just replaced.
