Buy an external SD-Card reader, solves all your problems.

The issue is that Canon does not update their software to support old cameras on new operating systems. You can make it work with the usb cable, but it may be difficult, so if you havent figured it out already, i suggest you stick with buying an external SD-Card reader like the rest of us using digital cameras.
(Pro tip: ALL(almost) Pro photographers use SD-Card readers, and they are cheap!).

SOURCE: I cannot get Remote Shooting option

According to Canon, camera communication is supported by Vista, like you have experienced. See:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=215&modelid=11209

The software that ships with the XT does not support Vista. To enable this support, you need to download an update from Canon. Click the following link and select Vista as your O/S from the drop-down box at the top:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=11209

Note that there are also several updates there that you may want to download and install as well.

I loved my XT until my wife dropped it on vacation a couple months ago.

Hope this helps.

Try using a separate card reader instead of the camera.

Solve your problem by using a card reader to download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop.

I used Photo Expl 2 on my previous (XP) computer, but recently upgraded on a new computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Had a problem with Photo Expl 2 on Windows 7 Home Premium, and I see by posts that...

Here's one from left field,

Download this photo app. It on all new customer's software builds.

After that, yes, there is an XP Mode available for free download to users of W7 Pro, Ultimate or Enterprise and would run your previous more "friendly" version.

My printer Canon LBP 2900 won't work on my new computer windows 7

There are none and I am sorry but there probably never will be, See this is the major problem with Win 7 anything over a year old generally just isn't supported.
Here is how to Install them so they work. Download your XP driver you wish to install. If it's in a zip/rar file then extract it to your desktop. You should have a simple .exe file sitting on your desktop to install the drivers, as normal for XP. Right click the .exe file and select "Properties". Then select the tab called "Compatibility" Now check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Make sure "Windows XP Service Pack 2" is highlighted. Now apply the settings and run the installer. This should work for most drivers, but not all Install and run as Administrator.

I have recently purchased a new tower which includes Windows7. I have a Canon N650U scanner. I am having trouble installing it. Please help!

Unfortunately the manufacturer has chosen not to support this scanner under either Vista or Windows 7. If you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, you can install the XP mode (a virtual XP computer). You will probably be able to install the scanner in the XP machine. The drivers are listed as being for Windows 98 and Windows 2000; I have never found any Win2K device that didn't install under XP.

You may need to save the images to an external media to transfer them from one "machine" to the other.

I hope this helps.

Problem with Quark QuarkXPress
How can I install my Quark 7 on my new Windows 7? All I get is 'QuarkXpress 7 requires that your computer is running Windows XP or Windows 2003. Help!

Solutions (2) Start the Windows "Program Compatibility Wizard".
Tell it that you want to install a Windows XP application.
Tell it that the software to be installed is on a CD-ROM.

I continue to be amazed that no body has found THE elegant solution I did. As a matter of fact I am using Quark 4 on Window 7, I used it on Vista (where it performed better than Vista) and on XP back at least to 98 or perhaps 95. My original install required burning a floppy (good luck with that today) for the registration. At some point, I discovered it was truly portable and simply copied the installed Quark directory to a new location (anywhere) on each new system. I dragged out a shortcut onto the desktop to the executable on every new platform. It still runs fine on this 64bit Window 7. Has not blown up yet. Something I wish I could say about other software. The only rub I found is that MS monkeyed about with associations (which worked fine in XP & Vista) and I have yet to be able to set.QXDs to Quark when I even set .QXTs to Quark.Windows 7 automatically served up In-Design as being the first (default) association in my programs list. Something I did not accept. I even tried to rewrite the registry in an attempt to make it work.
In fact, if you look into the .DLLs under Windows, you may find versions of the same .DLL that can run under 64, 32 and 16 bit environments. I suspect it will work under Windows 8 if MS doesn't leave working procedures ALONE!
