Mercury 150 hp 2 stroke 2003 everything runs fine with idle throttle lever engaged but when you put motor into gear i stalls idle to slow how do you adjust it thanks

If someone changed props this can cause this problem. You need to be careful that any adjustment is made for throttle rod and not for carbs if not an injected engine. You do not want to fool around with air mixture. Some throttle cables use threaded linkage and length of rod is adjustment for rpm. Others use a stop screw or hex head to move the throttle lever away from the housings.

How do i stop the engine running at a fast idle

Assuming it is a completely mechanical system with no electrical or electronic control there is no actual fast idle facility unless it is provided by a Waxstat cable device fitted into the cooling system.

I think what you mean is the engine idle speed is too fast rather than it is running at "fast idle" which is a term used for a raised idle speed when an engine is cold and decreases as the engine warms until at normal operating temperature the idle speed should be normal. On an old diesel engine it is the Waxstat device if fitted that provides this facility or a hand operated throttle. Very old cars and trucks had hand throttles for fast idle but later this function was provided by the choke or strangler mechanism. Some luxury cars had an electrical device fitted but the fast idle of modern engines is invariably provided by electronics.

I expect you need to adjust the throttle stop screw of the injection pump. This is at the lever where the throttle linkage connects to the pump and there is generally two stop screws fitted that limit the travel of the lever. One screw limits the maximum travel of the lever and therefore the maximum engine speed and this is generally set during manufacture or remanufacture and sealed to prevent tampering.
The other screw is the idle screw which the lever is pulled against by a spring when at rest.
Before adjustment it is necessary to ensure the throttle linkage is not maladjusted and preventing the lever contacting the stop. Disconnecting the linkage until the idle speed has been adjusted will ensure this and then slacken the stop screw locknut, start the engine and turn the screw in or out as applicable until the desired idle speed is achieved, allow the engine to warm up and make further adjustment if necessary and tighten the locknut and reconnect the throttle linkage. Do not adjust any pump screw except the idle screw.

Good luck!

How to ajust trottle linkage on transmission

Throttle valve cable adjustment:Place throttle body in idle position. Press cable lock button to release cable. Pull cable conduit toward rear of vehicle until wiper is completely retracted into end of conduit fitting. Release cable lock button. Raise vehicle for access to trans throttle valve lever. Rotate throttle valve lever toward front of vehicle until ratcheting sound (from cable) stops. CAUTION " Do not rotate throttle valve beyond the idle stop. The lever, valve and manual lever shaft will be damaged if rotated too far." Check cable adjustment. Throttle valve lever should begin to move at same time lever on MPI throttle body moves off idle position. Lower vehicle. 1991/1992 Rear Wheel Drive Truck There is also an adjustment procedure for front and rear band adjustments at engine if you need them.

I have a self propelled Toro walk behind that does not have a throttle control. Stalls out if grass is just a bit high. How/ where do I adjust throttle

Most new mowers do not have a throttle adjustment, the motor has a govnor that helps the motor speed up when the load requires it. The first thing you should check is that the blade is sharp which makes it easier to cut the grass. If the grass is still too high for the motor to keep up, it's usually easier to raise the deck (lower the wheels) so you are not cutting as much grass on each pass. Then lower the deck to where you want the grass height to be and make a second pass.

JS30 will start (sometimes) but cuts off within a few seconds. Fresh gas, new spark plug, and air filter have been installed. Cleaned bolt to float.

JS30 has a problem with the cutoff switch. The cable running to the lever on the
handlebar develops slack over time, and can be tightened up by pulling the
cable at the lever end. Manuver the pressed on end through the hole in the
lever til it locks on the point where the cable enters the pressed on piece. This
takes up enough slack to allow the switch to engage when the lever is pulled
back.

There is an adjustment to be made. Loosen the bolts and adjust the rotation until the specs are met.
MX-3 with 1.6L DOHC and 626/MX-6/Probe with 2.0L Engine
MANUAL TRANSAXLE
  1. Detach the connector from the throttle position sensor.
  2. Connect an ohmmeter between terminals IDL and E.
  3. Insert a 0.004 in. (0.1mm) feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and stop lever.
  4. Verify there is continuity between terminals IDL and E.
  5. Then replace the feeler gauge with a 0.027 in. (0.7mm) feeler gauge, verify there is no continuity between terminals IDL and E
  6. Then open the throttle wide and verify there is no continuity again between terminals IDL and E.
  7. Next, connect the ohmmeter between terminals POW and E.
  8. Insert a 0.004 in. (0.1mm) feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and stop lever.
  9. Verify there is no continuity between terminals POW and E.
  10. Then replace the feeler gauge with 0.027 in (0.7mm), verify there is no continuity between terminals POW and E.
  11. Then open the throttle wide and verify there is continuity between terminals POW and E.
  12. If not as specified, adjust or replace the throttle
AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE
  1. Detach the connector from the throttle position sensor.
  2. Connect an ohmmeter between the terminals IDL and E.
  3. Insert a 0.004 in. (0.1mm) feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and stop lever.
  4. Verify there is continuity between terminals IDL and E.
  5. Insert a 0.024 in. (0.6mm) feeler gauge between the throttle stop screw and stop lever.
  6. Verify there is no continuity between terminals IDL and E.
  7. Connect an ohmmeter to the throttle sensor terminals Vt and E.
  8. Verify that resistance increases as throttle valve opening increase.
  9. With throttle valve fully closed the resistance should be below 1 kilohm and as throttle valve is fully opened resistance should increase to approximately 5 kohms.
  10. If not as specified, adjust or replace the throttle sensor.

How do I adjust the idle on my 1993 24 DL Volvo?

Trace the throttle cable from the accelerator pedal to the engine block , it will terminate in a lever

Somewhere on the backside of that lever is a screw which you can screw in to set the idle speed
