hi, Sound like you need to look at your Keyboard mapping files, easiest way to fix this is to use Motorola System Configuration Manager - Downloadable from the Motorola website. If the unit need to be restored to factory defaults, than a fast way is to run the Clean boot files from the SD Card also downloadable via the Motorola site - search for 'MC9090 Clean boot'
The Fn key is a key found usually on the keyboards of portable computers (laptops, netbooks etc) and sometimes on desktop type keyboards.
It is a key usually marked with a blue coloured "Fn" and is located somewhere on the bottom left row of keys.
The Fn key is used in combination with other keys that have (usually) blue letters or icons on them to activate the special functions (Fn) on these keys.
For example, on the laptop I'm writing this on; If I press F5 the computer would perform the action my software has normally assigned to F5. If however I press the Fn button and F5, the computers internal function for decreasing screen brightness is invoked.
Different computer makes have different assignment to their keyboard Fn so you can't generally say press Fn+F5 to decrease screen brightness, it might be assigned to something else, volume or sleep-mode or even nothing. The "blue" text or icon will give an indication of what it will do.
The F5 key is not reserved. it is simply not mapped to anything. If you want it to work as F5 you will need to remap the key. The where to remap it, will depend on the type of application you use. If you use wavelink client, i can help you.
Following an advice in this forum I loaded the launch manager for the travelmate 6592, installed it and It put working on the silver P key of the laptop, i.e. the launch manager, and at the same time the fn+F5 key started to working on again. For a long time this key was disappeared from me laptop, just the same time that the fn+F5 key didn`t work.
