SOURCE: service traction system message on dash

This light is usually caused by a problem in the ABS system. A problem in the ABS system will dissable the traction control system. you will need to have the computers scanned for trouble codes.

SOURCE: 2002 Chevy Impala Traction control /ABS problem

i have a 2002 chevrolet impala and the same thing happened to me. abs light came on as well as my traction controll light. when i would step on the gas or brakes my car sounded like the brake pads were skiping against my rotors. i had my hub sensor replaced 5 times. the machanic kept telling me it was the part that need to be replaced.they hooked it up to have a dianostic done and the computer keep telling them to replace the hub sensor. so finally we brought my car to an electric auto shop. they found it was a loose wire that was turning my brakes on and off.(haywire)they fix my car in 30mins.

SOURCE: what would cause traction active light come on

i have had this problem since about 6 months after i bought my 2001 impala. the problem is in the hubs. the wireing that runs throw them rubs together and eventually shorts the traction and abs. easy solution to fix it though. get into the hubs and wrap the wires. otherwise take the car in and explain the problem to them and exactly what you need done. 9-10 times they won't fix the problem unless you tell them what you want done. it is really simple and going to the dealer should only cost you about 100 to fix.

1996 chevy impala power steering not working

The easy solution will be the excess fluid has allowed the belt to slip enough and not turn the pump fast enough to enable the steering to work. Make sure the belt as clean and free of the fluid (carb cleaner works great). Turn on the car when you do it so you get even coverage. You can also apply a belt dressing to aid in the belt maintaining "traction". If that is not the problem then you might have burned the pump up from running low or the pump just died at the same time of adding the fluid. Some of pumps can be rebuilt by you for cheaper then the cost of a new one. Just ask the parts store for prices on both.

Abs light stays on and traction control stays off in my chevy impala ls the transmission is acting up in drive i took out a fuse called [trans sol] now it drives but acts up in reverse

abs, traction control, tire pressure monitor and fuel economy indicators all use a speed sencer in the wheel hubs, save yourself a lot of greaf and have a mechanic do a code read and test the sencers, i had the same issue and it messes up the whole system, i ended up replacing one hub assembly for about $190,
as for your transmission acting up, put the fuse back in and change the fluid, DO NOT HAVE THE TRANNY FLUSHED, JUST A FLUID CHANGE!!! if you want to drive another day. todays tranmissions are way more complex than they need to be and have many solinoids and sencers that can and do fail, good luck.

2003 Chevy Impala Service Traction Sytem show on Dash

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.
