In new browsers, your set your preferred search engine. If you browser loads something like Search Conduit, your browser has been hacked. This typically happens when you install Google, Adobe, VLC Video Player, Handbrake Media Encoder. All these programs ask you to install extra search components. This especially problematic with VLC and Handbrake which are good tools. But, you cannot fly through the install otherwise you will install something you did not initially intend to. For Search Conduit or something similar search for that on a trusted search engine or your phone and follow the steps to remove.
For typical browsers, you can go into the options and specify who you want to manage your search business:
In Chrome, you'll find the search configuration by going into the browser settings, look under the "Search" section, and click on the "Manage Search Engines" button. Click "Make Default" button for the search engine you desire.
Internet Explorer has a search field that looks almost identical to the one in Firefox. Later versions, do this all from the URL bar. The dropdown for the search engine list in this case isn't next to the search engine icon, but instead it's to the right side of the field. This will show you a list of currently available search engines that you can set as your new default.
