Or you can buy a cheap 10 dollar ATA controller card to install.
But usely when the on-board controller starts to fail, other functions will also start to fail. If the ATA HDD can't be seen, a replacement board could help. If the drives are SATA, then get the raid drivers and install the drivers when windows asks if you have any software to install before windows continues - This would be for older main boards that didn't have SATA drivers installed in the BIOS.

Hope any of this helps - Have a great night.

SOURCE: have emachines T5048.. boots up but shuts off

Sounds like you've tried everything but the motherboard, so I'd have to say that's where trouble is. You can find replacement motherboards online if you want to stay with the original board. If you do that, you won't have to reinstall Windows because the hardware will be the same, but it's a costly part.

You can buy any micro-ATX motherboard which takes the same processor and use that as a replacement. This gives you a wide choice of replacements at reasonable prices, but you'll almost certainly need to reinstall a fresh copy of WIndows and activate it since you won't be able to use the factory restore image. This isn't a bad thing, though, since you wind up with a system free of the stuff that typically comes preloaded, and is usually worthless.

Windows won't start up? Well, try this Download Tenorshare Data Recovery from its offical site and install it. Burn it into CD/DVD, or USB flash, put into the computer you need to repair, Bios setting. It can make sure your important data will not lose. Best of luck

While trying to install PATA 250GB HD (XP Pro) only 130GB recognized. Upgraded BIOS to v1.4 (latest) and assured by Toshiba that this would enable computer to handle 250GB. No such luck. Accessed BIOS...

According to the detailed specs on that model, it came with a 60GB ATA-5 EIDI hard drive. therefore, you can use any ATA compatible (ATA-5, ATA-6 or ATA-100) EIDE/IDE drive that has jumpers enabling you to configure the drive as "Master". Western Digital Blue Scorpio and Seagate Momentus lines both have models that will fit the bill. You can find those drives at your neighborhood BestBuy or Staples pretty easily. I don't know if the A25 BIOS supports 48-bit logical block addressing (LBA), in spite of what toshiba says, If it only supports 24-bit LBA the maximum drive size is 137GB. If it supports 48-bit LBA then you can go as high as you can find drives available; usually 500GB. I suspect that it supports 48-bit LBA because various online vendors list up to 250GB drives for that model. The most important thing about the drive, though, is that it MUST be jumperable as 'master'. A cable select only drive won't work. Both the Western Digital and Seagate EIDE models have jumpers. hope this helps but if you need anything else just ask:)

if you have a new hard drive you will have to install the windows operating system from an external source such as a cd drive
go to bios --boot settings and change from 1st boot hard drive to 1st boot cd
install the win os and then you can install the rest
when finished go back to bios and -boot and change back to 1st boot hard drive

Could not detect ATA drive

Get into the bios/setup of the server (hit either of f2 or f10 or del keys during start up) and somewhere you should have an option to set the ATA/SATA hd to legacy mode, that should do it.

Added ide hd and can't boot from ata hd now!

Ah, ok. According to the manual, on page 1-23...here's what you need to do.

According to this page, you need to set onboard ide operate mode to "Enchanced Mode", and Enchanged mode support on to "Sata".
