Replacing stove top ignitor

I think I may need to replace an ignitor on one of my burners on a DCS RGS 305ss. I have the new ignitor which comes with a spring and circlip. Do I need to remove the stovetop and replace it from underneath, or does it pull up and out.

Remove the burner cap and lift the burner the igniter is fitted through the burner and held with a circlip underneath you will probably need to lift the top to access the wiring back to the igniter pack.

SOURCE: Wolf electric induction stovetop

We had the same problem with the Wolf induction stovetop. They came out and changed out a part and have never had that problem again. They said there was a problem on all units that came out earlier this year (2008) so if you are one of those, you should call them and have them change that out. But... I am also very frustrated about the inability to fry things on this unit. I don't fry very oftehn but it gives very unsatisfactory results, constantly shutting the heat off and then back on. Hmmm yumm.... soggy rare ahi- uncrispy chicken- anybody?? HELP!

SOURCE: spark ignitors on gas stovetop wont stop sparking

Make sure yo haven't spilled liquid on the ignitor becuase this will cuase all ignitors to spark constantly. If all is dry, the spark module must be replaced.

You didn't state whether you used a DCS conversion kit or not. I was able to find conversion instructions for a model similar to yours (not an exact match) but it will give you an idea as to what all is involved.

I have a Jenn-Air Gas Glasstop stove. When I turn the large burner on the gas turns on but the ignitor switch does not light the burner. When I turn any of the other burners on I can see all the ignitor...

It sounds like there may be an issue with the ignitor switch for the large burner. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Clean the ignitor: Sometimes the ignitor can become dirty, which can prevent it from working properly. Try cleaning the ignitor with a soft brush or cloth to see if that helps.
  2. Check the wiring: Make sure the wiring for the large burner is properly connected and not damaged. If you're not comfortable working with wiring, it's best to call a professional.
  3. Replace the ignitor switch: If cleaning the ignitor and checking the wiring doesn't help, it's possible that the ignitor switch for the large burner is faulty and needs to be replaced. You can find replacement parts online or through a professional repair service.
  4. Call a professional: If you're not comfortable troubleshooting or making repairs yourself, it's best to call a professional appliance repair service to diagnose and fix the iss

Hi abbilou_78,

I believe your ignition switches have come in to contact with either water or moisture.

Please read my below Tip on how to fix the problem:

If it does not solve your problem, I'd suggest replacing the ignition switches.

The stove top seems to be clicking, but the burner won't light

A common problem with that type of ignitor is that the porcelain insulator (much like a spark plug has) can crack easily. When it does, there will be a clicking sound, but the spark no longer arcs from the top of the ignitor post to the burner and cannot light the gas. Without an intact insulator, the ignitor is effectively shorting out and needs to be replaced.

One of 4 burners doesn't spark/light -- GE JGP979 Cook Top

I am going to assume you hear the "clicking" sound when you try to light the burner.
open the top of the stove. there are four burner. look at the one that is not lighting. use a straighten paper clip open the holes that is directly in-front of the tube that is facing the center of ignitor.
also make sure that the air vent directly behind the knob is fully open.

DCS range igniter won't stop

Hey all ... I just had a repairman fix my DCS cooktop that was doing the same thing ... ignitor problem. He replaced it and it's good as new. (Cleaning also did NOT work for me.) It cost me $216 for the repair. If you can find the part, it's pretty easy to replace. Just take off the front knobs (be careful as there is a 'ring' inside the neck of the knob) and unscrew the front. You will need a special screwdriver - looks like a star - but just snip the plastic straps holding the original ignitor in place and put the new one on the same way as the old one. You should be good as new. REMEMBER TO TURN OFF THE BREAKER!!! I can't imagine it would take more than an hour (tops) 'cause it looked pretty easy.

Stove top [gas] JENNAIR

Try carefully cleaning around the ignitors. Also clean hole in burners. Clean the holes closest to ignitors. This can be caused by a crack in ignitor, this requires replacement.
