Yes, this model is certainly compatible with Windows 7.
If you've lost the AC adapter and need to replace it, the most important things to look at are:
1) the size of the plug
2) the input voltage of the drive
3) the minimum current in Amperes (A) or milliAmperes (mA) required

For units manufactured after June 1st 2008, these are the requirements:
12 Volts
1.5 Amps
18 Watts

Western Digital recommends only using original WD power adapters.

Tip: sometimes you can find a cheap and original power adapter on eBay or Craigslist or Kijiji.

WHAT IS THE INPUT VOLTAGE AND AMPS OF A 500 GB WD EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. I LOST MY ADAPTER

You can normally buy a replacement adapter from Western Digital from this link, but they are out of stock at the moment.

As an alternative place to purchase this, it looks like you can buy it on Amazon.com

Hi my WD 1T is locked and formated ! Any recovery information I had not returned Information are very important in my HDD Please help me to be able to get my lost data recover thanks

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- you can buy a new W.D. device, through the W.D. web-site, at a significant discount.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Hi there, i have a wd elements 1.5tb i lost my power adapter,is it possible to get one.and what will be the price,,?

Although it is possible, it's is more likely someone will sell you the wrong adapter. There are so many drives on the market and almost no standards. You're safer bet would be to take the drive to a local PC shop and ask the technicians there to move the hard drive in the chassis you have to a new chassis which will come with it's own power supply, this is usually a safer way to procede.

When i plug in my hard drive it starts to make a clicking sound as the motor begins. It is not connecting. What do i do?

This doesnt always means the drive is bad, it can just be the cable...
My girlfriend bought me a verbatim 250gig external drive, which accoring to her was new from the shop but my PC couldnt pick it up, when connected, blue light flashes with a clicking nose... tried all usb ports but nothing... (wanted to take it back but she lost the receipt!!!!) after that didnt really bother with it until one evening playing FIFA on my sisters playstation and realised that the usb cable is the same as my external drive, so tried the cable and VOILA!!!!!!! PC picks it up and works as suppose to, till this day... So guys and gals, before going out to replace your external drive, borrow a playstation usb cable from your neighbor and have a go...

hope this helps
cheers!

About 2 years ago, our son bought us a ''WD My Book Essential, 1 TB to back-up our data's. As we had to move 2x we lost the part from the WD to the powerpoint (sorry my English). How do we get a new one...

I hope you see this post as we have no mail based reply system.

Assuming I understand you, you have lost the AC adapter. The cord that connects your My Book to the wall outlet.

In that case there is no simple way to replace the adapter. The simplest solution is to take the My Book to a local computer store and have them move the hard drive inside to a new enclosure. The technicians Should be able to do this for about $40USD or equivalent.

I hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Spindles are jammed solid

After a surge caused by lighting , does not matter if u use Seagate or WD drives ! And if u can u should check all u're components (if a pc, specially u're power supply) for damage, blackened components or inflated capacitors, because u'll might get later on in time problems and u;ll not know what caused them ...

The data can be still recuperated, if u go to a special data recovery company (they remove the spindles and mount them on other devices) but is expensive. And if it;s just music u lost.... ain't worth it !
