It sounds as if someone has used the operating system restore disc from a Hitachi system to install on your Acer system.
MicroSoft sells (licenses) functional OSs for cheap as long as the buyer is willing to lock them into their own systems so the Windows installation will not work for other systems, therefore cutting down on the piracy of their software.
I suspect you purchased this from another private individual.
Hope you have some kind of recourse-

The password exists to protect you, should a thief be in possesion of your computer, and is trying to use it.
Find your original sales-receipt, and telephone ACER, and they can help you with any ACER-related passwords.
If the password is associated with the HITACHI disk-drive, and you have forgotten it, then it's "game-over" -- there's no way to "crack" the password.

Hi,
Welcome to Fixya. Would like to know if you are the one who put a password on the hard drive?
The password exists to protect you, should a thief be in possession of your computer, and is trying to use it.
Unfortunately if the password is associated with the HITACHI disk-drive, and you have forgotten it, then it's game-over. there's no way to crack the password for hard disk drive. Even if you tried to call Hitachi they wont be able to crack the password for your hard drive.
Unlike other password (Windows Admin Password, Bios Password) we can reset it if you have forgot it but not the Harddrive password.
If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.
