What could be wrong with the tv? When we turned it on we had sound but no picture? After we turned the tv off and tried to turn the power back on there was nothing, no light even lit up on the front of the tv. We noticed that there was a humming noise earlier in the day when the tv was on. Is there a part that could need replacing?

as long as tv is within best buys return period .Usually 15 to 30 days.make sure hum is not comming from inputs. disconnect all inputs to confirm
SOURCE: Won't turn on
one of the inverter transformers has gone bad replace the bad one and the set will work fine ,there are 6 transformers in the 32".

Try removing all cables going to the TV except the power cord. Power on the TV and press mute. If you have any unwanted noise, then you have a defective TV and since it is new, you should get an exchange. If there is no noise with the A/V cables removed, then you might have hooked the source (cable box/DVD Player) into the wrong inputs of the TV.
SOURCE: no picture or sound, light comes on in the front and have to unplug tv to turn it off.
I had this exact problem on my Vizio 47" HDTV. I removed the speakers and all the screws on the back cover. Took the cover off and located the fuses on the largest circuit board. The are in the upper right hand corner of the board. There are 3 of them in a row labeled LF 1.5, LF 3.0 and LF 3.0. The are white in color with copper ends. I took a volt meter and measured continuity across all fuses individually and found the LF 1.5 to be blown. The guy at the electronics store sold me a barrel 1.5A fuse and told me to soldier it across the top of the blown fuse. It took an extra set of hands but the TV works perfectly.

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Known to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio connections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Is a Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the locations of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check all Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. Look to see if the Caps are deformed and or split at the top. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.
