Question about Garmin GPS
When I power up my Nuvi 855T and attempt to navigate screens, the user input is frozen after a period of time. Resetting the unit and clearing user data has no effect. Performing a software update [I've tried 4.20, 4.30 and 4.50] has no effect. What screens I happen to navigate to has no effect. If I don't enter anything and wait, it'll lock up.
I was hoping to perform a diagnostic on it to see if it is trying to talk to some broken peripheral but don't know how of if the unit supports diagnostics.
Email correspondence from Garmin tech support:
"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. We had an announcement
today that there will be a software update to address this issue coming
out within the next week. This is an issue we have found to be affecting
a large amount of 885 and 855 units. Please try the WebUpdater again
after next Tuesday to see if the update has been released. With the
update, your unit will be back to normal. Please let me know if there is
anything else I may assist you with."
I think the solution is obvious: Return the Nuvi 855T and get my money back.
