Connect the EQ to the Tape IN and OUT jacks and switch the Rec OUT/Zone 2 to Tape/MD. That is my best guess without having the owners manual....

Sorry no - I think you might have to buy a copy somewhere like Vance Baldwin or the other authorized Yamaha replacement part vendor.

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V995 receiver turns on & then powers off 2 seconds late

I suggest you run self diag.  press [FM/AM] key + [Input mode] key and press the [power/standby] switch.

ps prt = power supply problem
dc prt = shorted output or leakly cap in channel
tmp prt means to hot on heatsink

you'll likely have to measure the resistances of the output FETs to find a short,

Assuming you have the same Model Variant ( I'm not sure if Yamaha varies model from Country to Country) I just switch mine to effect off ( 2 Channel) to remove the surround component so that only A or B speaker pairs work. That should fix it unless I am mistaken.

Yamaha RX-V995: Remove On Screen Text

Here is a dumb try :). Connect your video source directly to the TV/projector, bypassing the receiver from inserting any messages.

If you are probably going to HD sometime, you would need to do that eventually as 995 doesn't have HDMI/Digital Video switching.
