I have a RiteTemp thermostat. I want to reset it to its factory defaults.

Yes, you need to use a small object to depress the Reset button. This avoids someone accidentally resetting the thermostat. You can unfold a small paperclip and use one end of the paperclip to depress the button. Alternatively, use a small hex key of about that diameter. (Sometimes a pen point will work. However, it depends on the pen design.)

I hope this helps. Some documentation for the RiteTemp thermostats is available here: http://ritetemp-thermostats.com/ . The RiteTemp 8022 thermostat is one model with the Reset button. See the Products drop-down near the top of the page. Select the 8000 series thermostats and check the images of the thermostats. Additional models are listed on the left side of the page.

RTHL3550D owners manual

reset option: remove batteries. press buttons/switches until nothing is viewible on the thermostat's monitor. Insert batteries reverse position. wait 5sec-1min (TiMEframe, debatable) remove batteries and reinsert the batteries in the correct position.

I hope I've helped.

background: This is a general reset for thermostats. Imagine like removing a battery from a motherboard; when done so, it resets the motherboard's BIOS; my approach is very similar without removing the thermostat from the wall.

note: I am NOT an ACtech. However, I've asked myself the same question. My information comes from personal experience.

Home Thermostat reads low batt

I have ran into this problem before. I have actually had low batteries I thought were good too ha! I have had to actually reset the stat to get the low battery to stop flashing. There are multiple ways to reset the thermostats, depending on model, but removing the batteries and waiting has worked, along with actually having a reset button somewhere on the stat. Hope this helps!

WHERE IS THE RESET BUTTON ON THE 6EM30-2 FROM AUG 2004?

Electric water heater has panels located on front of water heater.
Remove top cover, and insulation to reveal thermostat and element.

Stand on dry surface, including boards or plywood.
Do not hold screwdriver in mouth.
Do not touch any metal.
Red reset button is located on thermostat.
Push in reset.
If reset will not re-engage, then thermostat may be bad, or some other problem exists.

Screw terminals on thermostat are live.
When finished, insulation and cover must be put back over thermostat so thermostat not exposed to cool air that will cause thermostat to misread tank temperature.
Put ear against tank to hear bubbly-fizzing sound that says water heater is working.

If water heater is leaking or wet, do not touch unless circuit breaker is turned off.

Electric water heater is fully repairable by homeowner.
ECO red reset button trips when upper thermostat senses overheating.

Circuit breaker in water heater will not reset.

If I understand correctly the red reset button or ECO located on upper thermostat will not reset.
Add a comment if problem is different.

Electric water heaters are fully repairable by homeowner.
If circuit breaker to water heater will not reset, then you need full troubleshoot using inexpensive multi-meter from Home Depot::
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-problems-with-water-heater.html

If reset button will not reset, then two things can cause this problem.
1) Ground short between upper thermostat and upper element, including shorted upper element.
a) Look at wires to see visible signs of high heat and burning.
b) Test upper element for short.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-test-water-heater-element.html

2) Upper thermostat is bad. Test upper thermostat, or just replace thermostat using generic upper thermostat from hardware store.

3) If problems persist:
Troubleshoot electric water heater using inexpensive multi-meter from Home Depot:

Upper thermostats are generic unless you have "energy-smart" water heater that has control box and reset button located on top of tank.

Water is not hot

If your water has NO hot water, then click circuit breaker

Next, click red reset button.
Turn off power.
Open cover on water heater.
If heater has 2 covers, open top cover
After re-seting water heater, insulation must be put back over thermostat to prevent cooler air from affecting thermostat.

1) Reset button is a good starting place to check water heater.
Reset clicks off for a number of reasons, including overheated water.

2) Reset will not reset, then replace thermostat.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html

3) Resets clicks on, but clicks off again later, you should diagnose the problem.
Clicking reset is not a hazard
Click the reset as often as you want until you have time to diagnose.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-water-heater.html

4) Reset is not tripped, and you still do not have hot water:
Then use tester on top two screws (T1 - T3 screws -or- 1 and 3 screws) of upper thermostat to check if you have power.

If you have power, then replace thermostat.
If problems continue, a full diagnosis is needed as per the link above

I have an AO Smith Model EES 52 917 hot water heater. This morning my hot water suddenly disappeared. I have tried resetting the breaker with no luck.. I am not sure what else to try.

You have electric water heater.

Inside the upper panel on water heater is a thermostat with red reset button.
1) Click the reset.
2) Put insulation back over thermostat so it is not exposed to cooler air, so it reads correct temperature.

After resetting thermostat, you will have hot water.
The reset automatically clicks off when thermostat detects temperatures in excess of 150 degrees.
The re-set is a safety device, and it keeps everything safe.
If reset will not 're-set' with cold water in the tank, then thermostat is bad, replace thermostat.
You can repair electric water heater yourself following steps on links below

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-thermostat-on-electric-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-troubleshoot-electric-water-heater.html

If the reset clicks off again, just reset it
This is not a dangerous situation
Reset thermostat as many times as necessary until you can fix the problem

If you have trouble fixing the problem, add a comment at bottom of this page and it sends me an e-mail and I will help further

My thermostat displays E What does that mean?

Hi, that is the indication for "Error" and you should first replace the (2) AA batteries in the thermostat, (even if you just replaced them recently) and then using a small paperclip, reset the thermostat, by inserting the unbent end of the paperclip into the reset hole next to the keypad.

Be advised that this will reset the thermostat to the default temperature and time cycle settings, so you'll have to reprogram the unit, once you've reset it. With your unit, you only need to set a weekday setting and one for each of the weekend days.

Here's a copy of the instructions for your use in resetting and reprogramming the thermostat, once you've replaced the batteries.

You can also contact Hunter tech support, should the above info not get your thermostat back in working order by calling them at 1-888-830-1326, from 8 AM to 5 PM Central Time.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!
