Have the JVC HR-XVC26U. I installed this vhs/dvd

Have the JVC HR-XVC26U. I installed this vhs/dvd combo unit on my sony plasma tv and programmed it to record shows during the day. After recording the shows, the vcr switched to dvd mode and now i can't review the vhs tape. Last nite i actually unplugged the unit so i could get back to vhs mode. What's up with this thing. I've read the manual and goofed with the buttons on the unit and remote w/o success.

I lost my manual i would like to know how would i record from vhs to dvd on my device on my jvc combo modle # hr-xvc25u

The HR-XVC25U is a DVD player and VCR recorder. Unfortunately, you can only copy a non-copy protected disc to VHS with the unit.

JVC has the manual for the hr-xvc25u on their product page: http://support.jvc.com/consumer/product.jsp?modelId=MODL027079&pathId=10&page=1&archive=true . The direct link to the manual is: http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/96/82970ien.pdf .

I wish that I had better news for you.

I can play dvds but not vhs. how do i hook it up or program it, etc, so I can watch vhs?

Hi dave
To answer your question;
In order to watch both the dvd and vcr on the same tv input , you need to use the dvd/vcr output of your jvc.
The component output is for the dvd only.
So if you want to keep the component output for high definition when playing a dvd you can connect another rca cable from the dvd/vcr output of your jvc to another input on your tv when playing vhs.
If you want the owners manual online you can find it HERE
You`ll find all the info on page 11
Hope this help Good luck

VHS won't work

Had the same problem on my JVC vcr/dvd combo unit.
You need to turn off the timer function. I did this by making sure my remote was in the "VHS" mode...turn the swith from TV to the right (found on the remote in the upper left corner...an then hit the "vcr" button. Then point the remote at the VCR unit and hit the No. 4 button (timer turns off). Your unit should not have the red timer displayed and you should be able to play your tapes okay.

Hope this helps.

Poor picture when recorded on vcr

run a head cleaner through, a wet one is best and this should improve the quality of playback. Also check the condition of the vcr cassettes you are using, old ones do get worn out and leave dirt on the rollers and heads

Component Cable

Component video quality is better then Composite Video (yellow wire)
Of course component cable hook up will improve picture quality.

Seinfeld DVD episodes won't play

It is probably not your VCR. If it is only the Seinfeld DVD's then the format that the production company wrote on those few episodes are incompatible with your vcr. I know I'm not solving your problem much, but don't go waste money on a brand new Vcr when not needed.
